Master of Arts in Sociological Practice

We offer the Master of Arts in Sociological Practice program in both full-time (two-year) and part-time (three-year) options. We call ourselves 'Sociological Practice because we encourage our graduate students to take real life social problems as the focus of their research. Our program encourages community and civic engagement through research. Most faculty members contribute to and draw upon scholarship in critical sociology. Our classes all take place after 5 p.m. and usually are in person. However, during health pandemics and other emergency situations, classes will be fully online.

Successful applicants to the MASP should have an undergraduate major in sociology or a strong academic record in a field that is closely related to sociology. Admission decisions will be affected by the appropriateness of the undergraduate training to the dimensions of the program as well as by the educational and career intentions of the applicants. Applicants must have an undergraduate academic record with a grade point average of at least 3.0.

Satisfy English Language Proficiency Requirement for admission purposes with one of the following:

TOEFL score of 80 iBT

IELTS overall band score of 6.0, writing score no lower than 6.0 and no section score below 5.5

Cambridge English C1 Advanced (CAE), C2 Proficiency (CPE)–certificate awarded with a Cambridge English score of 180 or higher.

Duolingo score of 110
