There are no minimum academic requirements for entry to the Maritime Crewing Programmes.
All applicants must have a level of English sufficient to undertake this programme, which is taught and assessed in English. Those students whose first language is not English should have an International English Language Testing System (IELTS) overall academic score.
Level 3 Programmes: IELTS of at least 5 (with no band score lower than 5.0) issued within the last two years, or equivalent.
Level 4 Programmes: IELTS of at least 5.5 (with no band score lower than 5.0) issued within the last two years, or equivalent.
TOEFL Internet-based test (iBT): Score of 35 (with a writing score of 14). PTE (Academic) score of 36 with no band score lower than 36; Cambridge English Qualifications: B2 First or B2 First for Schools with a score of 154. No less than 154 in each skill. OET: Minimum of Grade C or 200 in all sub-tests. NZCEL - Level 3 (General). Language Cert - B1 Achiever International ESOL Written (LRW) PASS with no less than 25/50 in each skill and Spoken (S) PASS.
Other requirements
Applicants must hold either:
STCW Deck Watch Rating (for Deck Crewing strand)
STCW Engine Watch Rating (for Engineering strand)
Applicants should be aware that there are MNZ sea time, medical and eyesight requirements for the MNZ license which their programme contributes towards.
