Accelerated Bachelor of Science / Juris Doctor in English and the College of Law

The accelerated program leads to both the B.A. in English and J.D. degree. Students who want to complete this program must identify themselves to the English department as majors who wish to complete the accelerated program. Undergraduates who major in English and have completed at least 90 semester hours of undergraduate course work (including all general education and major requirements) with a minimum GPA of 3.25 are eligible to apply for admission to NIU's College of Law under the special provisions of this program. As part of the application to the College of Law, applicants must take the LSAT and must receive a score above the 50th percentile of the previous year's matriculating law class. Applicants are strongly advised to take the LSAT and submit their application to the College of Law no later than February 15 of the applicant's junior year. Admission will be on a competitive basis, and the likelihood of admission will depend on the number and quality of the applicants to the program, the number and quality of applicants to the College of Law in general, as well as other factors normally considered in admissions decisions by the College of Law.

High School Diploma: You must have graduated by the time you start at NIU in order to be admitted. Grades: You must have passing grades equivalent to a U.S. C plus average on all transcripts and/or exam scores.The ACT or SAT is required for international freshmen applicants from U.S. high schools. Official TOEFL or IELTS score report TOEFL: Either an Internet-based or paper-based test. Required minimum scores: 71 on an Internet-based test 527 on a paper-based test IELTS: Minimum required overall band score of 6.0
