Certificate in Electrician Foundation Trades

This program consists of Foundation Trades Training and Level 1 Apprenticeship training.The program prepares students for entrance into the field of Electrician by providing them with the basic knowledge, skills and technical training that employers are seeking in new hires. Students will be exposed to substantial hands-on exercises that directly relate to the workplace and includes a practicum course of 60 hours.Career ProspectsAn electrician lays out, installs, tests, troubleshoots, and repairs electrical systems which provide lights, heat, communications, and power to a variety of new and existing residential, commercial, and industrial structures. With advances in technology, the work of the electrician is changing, as today's wired environment requires electricians to be able to install a variety of wiring such as data, audio, video, signaling, and communication cabling. Electrical control systems are also becoming more complex, often solid-state or computer controlled, which requires electricians to have a greater knowledge of electronic systems.

Complete either A or B:

A. English, Math, and Science

English Requirement

One of the following:

BC Language Arts 11 Courses – 4 credits earned, minimum individual grade of C+, or equivalent.

BC Language Arts 12 Courses – 4 credits earned, minimum individual grade of C+, or equivalent.

ENGL 040new window or higher, with a minimum final grade of C+, or equivalent.

IELTS score of 5.5 overall with no band less than 5.0 or equivalent English placement test and score.

Math Requirement

One of the following:

Pre-Calculus 11 with a minimum final grade of C+, or equivalent

Pre-Calculus 12 with a minimum final grade of C+, or equivalent

MATH 040new window​ or higher, with a minimum final grade of C+, or equivalent.

Science Requirement

One of the following:

Physics 11 with a minimum final grade of C+, or equivalent.

Physics 12 with a minimum final grade of C+, or equivalent.

PHYS 040new window or higher with a minimum final grade of C+, or equivalent.

B. ESTR 047

Complete:

ESTR 047 – Essential Skills for Trades Advanced-Level with a minimum final grade of 67%.
