There are a range of study options at SGU. SGU offers a four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree for university graduates and five-, six-, and seven-year MD tracks for high school graduates. Through the university's partnership with Northumbria University, SGU students can also spend up to three years studying in Newcastle in the UK.
SGU maintains close links with an array of established clinical partners in medicine. At SGU, over 75+ affiliated hospitals and health systems in the UK and the US offer clinical and ambulatory training. The university's professional connections help to ensure that students who graduate from SGU are prepared for future careers in medicine.

School of Medicine professors bring a wealth of academic and professional experience to their teaching, and all have an MD, PhD, or equivalent qualification.
The school has been continuously accredited for decades, enabling SGU medical graduates to be eligible to practice in the US. The Grenada Medical and Dental Council (GMDC), the SGU School of Medicine accreditor, is recognised by the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME), ensuring that SGU students have access to USMLE Step exams, US clinical rotations, eligibility for US residency placement, and the physician licensing process in the US and many other countries worldwide.
Students who start their medical studies at SGU with a bachelor's degree can follow the traditional four-year MD program. There are also three preclinical tracks leading to the MD program. During the preclinical phase, students will study sciences, humanities, and social science, and essential coursework in preparation for medical school.
Basic Sciences are the first two years of the four-year MD program. Students can complete the two years in Grenada or study partly in the UK at Northumbria University. Departments within the Basic Medical Sciences faculty include:
The final two years of the MD program are spent at hospitals and clinics across the US and UK. This portion of the MD program also features further learning modules which are delivered through lectures, small group sessions, and directed study via the clinical faculty. SGU's Grenada campus is on a southwestern peninsula of the Caribbean Island. There are 65 buildings across the university's picturesque seaside location, which is home to stunning Georgian architecture and vibrant Caribbean colours. The campus has a range of modern facilities, which include lecture halls, laboratories, a healthcare clinic, and a library. Additionally, there is a multi-purpose fitness and wellness centre on campus, as well as a playing field, a bank, and an array of dining outlets.
There is a range of beautiful living spaces managed by SGU campus in Grenada. Students can choose from single or double-occupancy rooms in a welcoming, vibrant, and secure multicultural student community.
Students who begin their medical education with SGU in the UK will be based at the Northumbria University city campus in Newcastle, where specialist facilities include prototyping workshops, media laboratories, and CAD suites.

SGU admits students on a rolling basis with new intakes in August, January, and April. There are a range of entry options for students who wish to study at SGU, and the university caters to students from all academic backgrounds.
Four-year MD program students must hold a bachelor's degree in the requisite sciences. For the five-year MD track (four-year MD and one year preclinical), the six-year MD track (four-year MD and two years preclinical), and the seven-year MD track (four-year MD and three years preclinical), there is a range of accepted qualifications. These include advanced levels, approved foundation programmes, full IB diplomas, secondary school diplomas, and IGCSEs.
Any student who is not a native English speaker will either need an undergraduate degree from a native English-speaking country, or one of the following scores in a recognised English proficiency test:

Please note: International students are exempt from the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT). Students do not need to apply through UCAS or take the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET).

Scholarships
All students are eligible to be reviewed for scholarships and need-based bursaries. Students may be eligible for multiple awards, depending on their circumstances. These include the Global Scholars Bursary and the International Peace Bursary, both of which are grants-in-aid that do not need to be repaid.
Through the Global Scholars Bursary, students may be eligible for partial-tuition awards when joining the four-year MD program with SGU and Northumbria University. To be eligible for this bursary, students must be able to demonstrate both their academic excellence and financial need.
Through the International Peace Bursary, students may be eligible for partial-tuition awards to support work designed to enhance medical care systems. To be eligible, students must demonstrate financial need and the ability to fund the remainder of their tuition fees.
