The University of Newcastle College of International Education (CIE) is the official on-campus pathway college to the University of Newcastle, Australia. The College offers alternative pathway opportunities to over 130 undergraduate and postgraduate degree programs at the University of Newcastle, all in a diverse and supportive environment designed to ensure a successful transition to further study. Every year it welcomes international students from over forty countries into the College.
The College's goal is to prepare students for success at university. Students studying at CIE will benefit from small-class sizes and one-on-one support to gain the English and academic skills required to thrive at university and complete a degree with confidence.
College students will have access to all the exceptional facilities and services at the University of Newcastle. This includes seven state-of-the-art libraries holding 1.3 million resources, over 100 clubs and societies, free career counselling and a Centre for Teaching and Learning that provides drop-in sessions and academic workshops.

This 8 or 12-month program is structured to equip students for university study, both academically and socially. It's designed to prepare students for a seamless transition to Year 1 of over 130 different undergraduate degrees offered by the University of Newcastle.
This program acts as a pathway for international students aspiring to get into the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine (Joint Medical Program) at the University of Newcastle. It can be completed in either 8 or 12 months. This is one of a handful programs of its type in Australia. Successful applicants will receive a packaged offer for both Foundation Studies in Medicine and the Bachelor of Medical Science and Doctor of Medicine. Progression rules do apply.
The standard and extended Degree Transfer programs are designed for students who have completed 12 years of schooling in their home country, and offers a direct pathway into the second year of their chosen bachelor's degree at the University of Newcastle. They are available in four different streams: business, commerce, engineering and information technology.
This program is a direct pathway for international students aiming to enrol in a variety of master's degrees at the University of Newcastle. This program is taught over two trimesters. Upon successful completion of the program, students will receive up to 30 credit points, allowing them to jump straight into the second trimester of their master's degree.

International students looking to study at The University of Newcastle College must meet the admissions standards that have been set by its academic board. In general, for most countries or regions, this implies the completion of Year 11 or Year 12 at school with the required grades. In some cases, a diploma may be required. Undergraduate and postgraduate country specific entry requirements are listed on the website.
International students must also meet English requirements for their chosen programme. Students can visit the College website for more details on English entry requirements for the different programs offered and the English tests accepted by the College. Broadly, students need to have completed the IELTS with a 5.5 or 6.0 score overall, or the TOEFL (iBT) with a score of 50 overall, though some other tests are also accepted, and requirements may vary according to the program chosen.
International students can apply to study at this College through one of authorised CIE agents or by applying directly.

The CIE admissions team will review the application and, if successful, the applicant will receive either an offer of admission or be assessed to determine whether they meet the requirements for a Genuine Student under Australian legislation.
To accept the offer, the applicant will need to log into the Kaplink Application Portal to accept the offer and make payment.

Newcastle is among Australia's most affordable cities for students to live and study in. Students can choose from nine different on-campus residences located across Newcastle Callaghan and Central Coast campuses. Weekly prices range from AUD 200 (non-catered) through to AUD 483.50 per week (catered).
The university also has a service that can offer free advice to students about shared housing as well as access to a database of current rooms, apartments and houses available to rent. Homestay connects students with local families to live in a home environment.
Students will enjoy a safe environment on campus, with campus security services available 24 hours a day, seven days a week. Students can enjoy a free shuttle bus services that loops around Callaghan campus and runs between Callaghan and Newcastle City campuses. An after-hours, on-call security shuttle is also available at Callaghan campus.
The University of Newcastle College of International Education is proud to offer students a range of scholarships.
The College offers a range of scholarships towards the cost of program tuition fees. These scholarships normally represent 5% to 30% of the total program fee, depending on the program and student nationality. Scholarships are awarded automatically and do not require a separate application. The exact amount awarded will depend on an applicant's particular background, for example, the grades achieved in high school.
Students with a sibling who also enrols with the College will be eligible for the Kaplan Family Bursary. The bursary provides 10 percent off the tuition fee of the second sibling who accepts the offer and commences studies.
Students progressing to the University of Newcastle may be eligible for the Progression Scholarships, which is 20 percent per year (2026) for the total duration of their studies (some programs are excluded, please refer to the University of Newcastle scholarship page), or contact the College via email.
