We live in the digital age, facing an increasingly digital future. This forward-looking course shapes you into a creative digital professional by following a unique, problem-solving ‘two pillars’ approach that puts you at the leading edge of financial technology (fintech). First, it equips you to tackle the biggest challenges facing the financial sector, particularly around increased regulatory requirements and customer satisfaction. Second, the course gives you the tools to use fintech to build a more sustainable future. Using a hands-on approach, you develop innovative solutions to real-world problems using real-time, transformative digital technologies including AI, big data, machine learning, blockchain, cryptocurrencies and cybersecurity.
The assessment includes coursework to test student knowledge and understanding and to demonstrate their ability to research, apply theories and models, critically thinking, communicate, and work in teams. Also, there will be group work where an individual’s contribution to group work is evaluated via various methods, i.e. a set of individual questions at the end of presentations which are video recorded orand via an assessment of the project logs stored in BREO group spaces. For MSc students, the final unit demonstrates student’s ability to independently conduct academic enquiry, bring together knowledge and action, relate theory to practice, thereby to solve problems; or undertake dissertation or live projects.
The Course’s various Assessment Strategy includes:
Written Report or Essays are used to assess academic writing skills and further test student ability to perform literature or data informed research, to review and evaluate the relevant sources and to use an appropriate methodology in order to analyse, and evaluate the relevant concepts and theories.
Case Studies are used to assess students’ ability to apply their knowledge in the context of specific cases.
Oral Presentations are used to assess presentation skills
Live Projects are used to assess students’ ability to understand real live business problem and provide actionable solutions to problems
Reflective Reports are used to allow student to reflect back on their own practices and learning.
Business simulations are used to simulate business problem and provide an opportunity to student to apply theory into simulated problems.
In-class tests are used to test students’ knowledge of core concepts in a given context
Group work is used to help students to provide essential team working skills such as communication skills, collaboration skills, time management, leadership skills
Capstone assessments are used to provide an opportunity to student to undertake an extensive research project where students are required to produce an individual, independent research report within the course specialist subjects.
Students will have to identify the research question or problem under investigation, review relevant literature, develop a sound methodology in order to explore the problem, proceed with the analysis, discuss their findings and make recommendations. At the end, student viva will be conduct with students. Students will undertake formative assessment activities; these are designed to support the development of their knowledge and skills. The purpose of such assessment is to enable them to monitor and improve their performance. For example, they will have the opportunity to discuss a report structure before completing the report, to present conceptsfindings through presentations and receive feedback before producing a final report or presentation. In preparation for exams, they will have opportunity to attempt revision questions with guidance on how to address these, with appropriate solutions.
