The following are minimum requirements to be considered for entry into the program.
Admission decisions are based on the qualifications of the applicant as well as the ability of the Department of English, Theatre, Film & Media and the University of Manitoba to serve the applicant's intended program of study and area of specialization.
To be considered for admission to the English (MA) program, you must have a minimum of a four-year honours degree in English literature (or equivalent) with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in prior English studies and an overall GPA of 3.0.
Pre-master's admission requirements
To be considered for the pre-master's program you must have a minimum of a three-year bachelor's degree in English literature with a minimum GPA of 3.0 in the last two full years of university study. Completing the English Pre-MA year does not guarantee entry into the English MA program. A separate application will be required.
English language proficiency
IAEP (Intensive Academic English Program) - Pass Level 5/AEPUCE (Academic English Program for University and College Entrance) with a minimum of 65% overall
IELTS (Academic module) (International English Language Testing System) - 6.5 overall
Internet-based TOEFL - Overall score of 86 (Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking - 20)
Pearson Test of English Academic - 61 overall
Cambridge Assessment of English at the C1 Advanced or C2 Proficiency level - Minimum score of 180
