Jane Goodfellow is a lecturer at Western Australia’s North Metropolitan TAFE. She won the national 2017 VET Teacher/Trainer of the Year Award for her innovative teaching strategies in class. Jane feared she would not be able to teach after losing her hearing but a cochlear implant helped her get back to the classroom.
Jane was able to continue her two decades-long career in VET and is passionate about teaching, making use of blogs, QR codes and apps to help overcome the challenge of hearing student questions and comments in a big class. “VET is a way for students to achieve their dreams,” said Jane. “I’m especially inspired by those who overcome adversity to complete their course, such as those with disabilities, raising children on their own or facing cultural pressures”.
