Technical and Further Education New South Wales (TAFE NSW) is the largest training provider in Australia (CRICOS provider 00591E), with 130 different locations which students can study at throughout the state.

Not only does TAFE NSW provide a huge range of places to study, it also offers over 100 different Certificates, Diplomas and Degrees – and a variety of English language courses to its international students.

TAFE NSW introduces new double qualification course

TAFE NSW is now offering a Certificate IV course in Electronics & Communications and a Diploma of Electronics & Communications Engineering. Students can develop hands-on skills in a variety of electronic systems and equipment, and qualify for an Electronic Equipment Trades Worker position.

Offered at the Ultimo, Sydney city location, students enrolled in the course can get a double qualification in 2 years and graduate with job ready skills. A hands-on practical course, students learn how to maintain and repair electronic equipment and systems. They can specialise in several jobs including Audio visual, Security, Home Theatre and Engineering Technician.

English language courses are also available at TAFE NSW English Language Centres to help students qualify for the certificate programmes.

Students can apply online to enrol in the new course.

TAFE NSW has a range of study options available. Students can start with an English language course then take up a Certificate or Diploma course to then finish with a Bachelor’s degree.

Diploma-to-Degree (D2D) pathways:

D2D courses are pathways to help students gain a Degree at TAFE NSW and leading universities.

The pathways qualify students for a Bachelor’s degree programme with guaranteed credit at the following leading Australian universities:

D2Ds help students gain a TAFE NSW Diploma and a Bachelor’s degree earning them a double qualification. They also have the advantage of lower semester tuition fees at TAFE NSW.

Diploma and Advanced Diploma courses:

These courses are for students who seek broader subject knowledge and paraprofessional skills. Study options range from Agriculture, Building Design, International Business, Graphic Design, Hospitality Management and Human Resource Management.

Certificate courses:

How to apply

How to apply

International students can apply for a course at TAFE NSW using the following steps:

  1. Check the evidence needed to provide to the Department of Border Protection (DIBP) to obtain a visa
  2. Applicants should make sure to meet entry requirements
  3. Download and complete the application form - for Diploma-to-Degree packages, applicants should download the respective university application form and submit it along with the application
  4. Prepare certified copies of documents, A certified copy is a copy of the original document signed and dated by the organisation that issued the original document, a government official, public notary or Justice of the Peace, or an agent of TAFE NSW, confirming that they have sighted the original
  5. Submit the application online
  6. A TAFE NSW student advisor assesses the application and issues an offer letter with an invoice
  7. Student must confirm acceptance
  8. Student Advisor will issue a confirmation of enrolment (COE)
  9. Student must apply for a VISA and enrol at TAFE NSW

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

All TAFE NSW Degree and Diploma courses require a Year 12 or equivalent. Country and course specific requirements might apply.

Certificate courses

Most courses require Australian Year 10 or equivalent and some courses require Australian Year 12 or equivalent.

Advanced Diploma and Diploma courses

Completion of a Certificate III or IV course or equivalent skill level. Additional course specific requirements might apply.

Bachelor degrees

Year 12 qualification or equivalent OR Certificate 4 qualification or equivalent OR Completion of at least one year full-time study or equivalent in a Degree course at a higher education institute.

Bachelor’s degree courses:

  • Academic IELTS score of 6.5 with a minimum level of 6 in all bands
  • Occupational English Test (OET) with a minimum score of B in each of the 4 components
  • Pearson Tests of English (PTE) Academic overall score of 58 and minimum score of 50 in each component
  • TOEFL (iBT) with minimum scores - overall 79, Reading 19, listening 20, speaking 20 and writing 20
  • Year 12 from Canada, New Zealand, Republic of Ireland, South Africa, United Kingdom or the USA
  • TAFE NSW Certificate 4 in English for Academic Purposes (EAP)

Scholarships & funding

The Australian government invests more than A$200 million in international scholarships annually. The Australia Awards Endeavour Scholarships and Fellowships and Australia Awards Scholarships are available to eligible students.

Australia Awards Endeavour scholarships and fellowships

The Australian government offers the scholarships for TAFE NSW vocational education and training courses at the Diploma, Advanced Diploma and Associate Degree levels. The scholarships provide financial help with tuition fees and living expenses. The Australian government administers the awards through the Department of Education.

Australia Awards scholarships

These scholarships are also offered by the Australian government but through the Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade. The scholarships provide financial support for citizens of specific countries to study in Australia.
