What's new

The university recently had the privilege of receiving a generous USD 1.5 million gift donated by Farm Credit Services of America (FCSAmerica). This grant is being used to support the development of a world-class Ranch Management and Agriculture Leadership Center, located within the university's College of Agriculture and National Resources.

This facility is dedicated to providing quality training, education and upskilling to future ranch managers, wildland recreation sector workers, and tomorrow's leaders of the agricultural sector.

The funds provided by FCSAmerica will be matched by Wyoming's state matching program, bringing the total gift to USD 3 million. Since the creation of the matching program by the Wyoming Legislature in 2001, the university has been fortunate enough to receive over USD 222 million in matched government support, resulting in huge benefits for students attending UW.

The university has also recently received USD 1 million from the Ellis Family Foundation which has also been state-matched to create a USD 2 million endowed scholarship fund which will provide essential support to high-achieving UW students pursuing engineering qualifications.

The V. Diane Ellis President's Endowed Scholarship will have a fantastic impact on helping the brightest prospective students to access opportunities at the university, as well as expanding the range of opportunities available for students who wish to take on programs at the College of Engineering and Applied Science.

The University of Wyoming was founded in 1886, when Wyoming was still a territory. In September 1887, UW opened its doors to 42 students and five faculty members ? as befitted the university of ?The Equality State? both the students and faculty included women from the first day. Built on the outskirts of town in Laramie?s city park, Old Main was UW?s first building and held classes, the library, and administrative offices during the first years of the university?s existence. The university today is a nationally recognized land-grant research institution with expert faculty, top-ranked academics and world-class facilities.

UW offers 80 undergraduates and more than 90 graduate academic programs through seven colleges and multiple interdisciplinary institutes and schools. With a small student/faculty ratio of 15:1, the university is a community of scholars and learners committed to excellence. The University of Wyoming's academic programs of distinction are focused in six broad areas, science and technology, the arts and humanities, environment and natural resources, life sciences, and professions critical to the state and region.

Nestled between mountain ranges at 7,200 feet, this 1860s railroad town is now home to nearly 32,000 residents, a number of respected museums and countless one-of-a-kind shops and restaurants. A dozen vibrant murals, painted by local artists, bring the historic Laramie downtown to life, while the rumble of trains reminds this Western town of its roots.
