English Proficiency

All applicants will need to pass the minimum requirements of an English proficiency test. This scholarship is awarded to an incoming international student from a UWC college who can demonstrate academic achievement, a dedication to community service, has leadership potential and is in financial need. The scholarship is up to USD 22,000 per academic year depending on financial need.

Facilities

Trent University has excellent facilities across both campuses.

Bata Library

Recently developed into the new ‘library of the future’, the Bata Library is one of the main academic spaces for students on campus. With books, resources and IT services, as well as a range of study spaces, it suits the needs of all students looking for somewhere quiet or collaborative to work on campus. New features include a presentation practice room and two new graduate reading rooms. The brand-new entrepreneurship and social innovation center is designed to help students with experiential learning projects, and those undertaking work placements. The two new visualization labs are dedicated to new technological advancements including 3D printing and virtual reality.

Sports

For use by students both recreationally and academically, the Trent Athletics Centre has state-of-the-art facilities both outdoor and indoor including a gym, basketball and badminton courts and indoor soccer pitch. Some students will wish to join Varsity Sports and play for the university, and the university has an excellent reputation for curling, lacrosse, rowing, rugby, soccer and volleyball. Other students may wish to join one of the many sports and athletics clubs. As well as the facilities on campus, students are right next door to diverse nature areas with kilometers of hiking trails nearby.

Accommodation

There are accommodation options on both the Peterborough and Durham campuses. Living on campus can be a great way to meet new people and be part of the campus community, especially for first year students. Housing doesn’t just mean a room, they also include dining halls and lounges, and give students closer access to student services and faculty offices for academic and personal support. There is particular housing available for graduate students, offering more self-contained apartments for older students.

Placements, internships & co-ops

Placements, internships & co-ops

At Trent University, students get a practical, real-world learning experience. Everyone is guaranteed meaningful career-focused learning opportunities.

All programs offer courses that include experiential learning. Most offer the chance to earn academic credit through several paths, such as internships and co-ops. Opportunities include research projects, field placements and intensive language programs, both locally and internationally.

Placements

All students can gain work experience through the placement program. These are available with some of Canada's top organizations, such as Royal Bank, Ontario Power Generation and local hospitals.

Internships

Several degree programs include internship opportunities. Students can gain experience alongside their degrees, as well as network and make good professional links. Across courses including forensic science, education, nursing and health sciences, students can gain academic credit whilst experiencing the workplace.

Co-op programs

Co-ops help students graduate from university with a head start in their chosen field. They can graduate with a degree along with 12 months of relevant full-time paid experience. Programs are available in areas such as conservation biology, and computing and information systems.
