The University’s Professor Matthew Goodwin has been named in the Friends of Europe list of European Young Leaders 2018.

Friends of Europe is a leading think tank that connects people, stimulates debate and triggers change to create a more inclusive, sustainable and forward-looking Europe. Its Young Leaders programme is based on the premise that a group of talented leaders aged under 40 from different backgrounds, sectors, and European countries can offer new responses to international challenges.

It describes Professor Goodwin as ‘an outward-facing researcher who shares the view that social science should be as much about contributing to wider society as to the social sciences’ and a political scientist who ‘has tried to bridge the gap between academia and policy-making when it comes to topics such as radicalisation, extremism and integration.’

The new Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS) welcomed its first students. The KMMS students will study in bespoke facilities at the Canterbury campuses of both universities and will take up placements across the community of Kent and Medway. Rankings

The University of Kent has been ranked amongst the best fifty universities across the UK by The Times and Sunday Times Good University Guide in 2021. The university has also attained a top 10 ranking in a variety of subjects including history of art, social policy and social work. Its anthropology architecture art and design communications and media German law linguistics theology and sociology subjects were ranked in the top 20 across the UK.

Virtual event

Students interested in pursuing postgraduate studies are invited to book a place at the Asia postgraduate virtual event on Thursday 13th of May from 9am to 12pm (BST). The event allows students to meet the international team, talk to specialist academics and current students and learn more about the courses available. There will also be information on scholarships, accommodation, wellbeing and study support at the University of Kent. All international students are welcome to attend.

New medical school

The new Kent and Medway Medical School (KMMS) welcomed its first students. Students at KMMS will study at the bespoke facilities in the Canterbury campuses and will be able to carry out work placements within the Kent and Medway communities. The school is proud to maintain a global faculty that unites local, national and international knowledge and expertise.

Together the staff aim to give all students a great understanding of patient-centred practices across all settings. Humanities

The Faculty of Humanities' has one of the largest range of subjects of any university in the UK, running programmes on architecture, arts, philosophy, history, literature, drama, music, various modern languages, linguistics and many other subjects also. The Canterbury campus is built on 300 acres of parkland overlooking Canterbury Cathedral and is less than 25 minutes' walk from Canterbury city centre. Residential, teaching and administrative buildings are surrounded by green open spaces, fields and woods.

The campus is self-contained and includes student accommodation, teaching facilities, a library, sports centre, theatre, music performance centre, nightclub, cinema, places to eat, bars, shops, a bookshop, medical centre, day nursery, public access computer rooms, a chapel, launderettes and bus stops.

Medway campus

A lively atmosphere and a thriving campus community gives students plenty of opportunities to play sport, join a society, socialise or take up a new interest. There are music rehearsal rooms, digital film-making suites, an industry-standard newsroom, laboratories and post-production studios, all housed in a unique, historic setting.

The new Student Hub is a fantastic place to relax with friends, grab a drink or snack and get on with work. The space is filled with social zones, study areas and a brand new bar.

Making Music

The University of Kent has a flourishing programme of music and students of all subjects, together with staff and the local community, have the opportunity to get involved in the wide-range of extra-curricular music activities.

As well as the many concerts in the Colyer-Fergusson Concert Hall, there are opportunities to perform in other venues, including the spectacular surroundings of Canterbury Cathedral and other historic and exciting spaces around the region.

If you sing or play an instrument you can join the Chorus, Symphony Orchestra, Concert and Big Bands and Chamber Choir which rehearse weekly for public concerts each term. Many other ensembles and bands are formed each year, and budding soloists and conductors also have a chance to develop their talents. The University also offers Music Performance Scholarships usually worth between £1,000 - £2,000. They are awarded each year to talented instrumentalists and singers studying for any degree at the University, together with £500 worth of instrumental or singing tuition with experienced teachers.

The University also offers Music Performance Scholarships usually worth between £1,000 - £2,000. They are awarded each year to talented instrumentalists and singers studying for any degree at the University, together with £500 worth of instrumental or singing tuition with experienced teachers.

The University of Kent's beautiful Canterbury campus is located within three hundred acres of pristine parkland which overlooks Canterbury Cathedral, which is the heart of a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The campus is accessible within an hour by train from the capital of London and is only 25 minutes by foot from the city centre of Canterbury.

The campus is a self-contained and secure site, and students will also be able to benefit from excellent-quality student accommodation, state of the art teaching facilities, a large library, sports centres and exercise facilities, a nightclub, a cinema, as well as a range of eateries, bars, shops, and more.

The University of Kent's Medway campus is located just a short trip from London and was built through the revitalisation and transformation of a former naval base. Now, the site is a cutting-edge study space fit for students of the 21st century and hosts outstanding support services and facilities.

The campus is known for its lively and vibrant atmosphere and a welcoming community of students and staff. There are loads of opportunities for students at the Medway campus to get involved in sports, student society activities or a range of social or interest-related activities. Awards available to international students include:

International scholarships for undergraduate students

These scholarships provide students with GBP5000 towards the cost of tuition fees per year of study at the University of Kent, and are offered to nationals of any country paying overseas fees.

Scholarships for postgraduate scholarships

The University of Kent has a scholarship fund of over GBP11 million to support its taught and research students including funding from the UK Research Councils, subject and location-specific scholarships, and more.

If you don't yet have this level of English and need to raise your English language skills, you can attend one of our intensive pre-sessional courses in English for Academic Purposes. Satisfactory achievement on one of these courses can be used to meet Kent's English language entry requirements in place of other external language examinations.

We also offer an International Foundation Programme (IFP) for students whose school-leaving qualifications are insufficient for direct entry to undergraduate study and/or whose English language standard is below the necessary level. The IFP gives you a year's preparation in academic subjects, English language and study skills up to the required level for progression onto undergraduate degree study.

Together with the British Council, Kent is offering 6 dedicated scholarships of £10,000 to Chinese, India, Malaysian, Thai and Turkish passport holders, available to applicants applying for a taught master's programme based at one of the University’s UK campuses.

The Bestway Foundation Scholarship (for Pakistani students):

Together with The Bestway Foundation, Kent offers a number of scholarships to students from and domiciled in Pakistan, applying to postgraduate one year Master’s programmes in Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics.
