University of Technology Sydney

Australia
Overview

Overview

Located in the heart of Sydney, the University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is Australia's No.1 Young University (QS Top 50 Under 50 2021) and one of the world's top 150 universities (QS World University Rankings and Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2022).

Known as Sydney's city university, UTS is based in the city's leading digital and creative precinct, connecting students with countless industry opportunities and world-leading research centres – right on the campus doorstep.

UTS is one of five universities in the Australian Technology Network (ATN). The ATN brings together real-world universities that share a focus on enterprise, impact, and finding solutions to economical and societal issues.

It may be young, but UTS has rapidly become a leading university, gaining global recognition for its practice-based teaching and learning with an industry focus in a globalised world. This teaching model prepares students for their future career from their very first day of class and fosters a commitment to lifetime learning.

The university offers over 150 undergraduate and 250 postgraduate courses across a vast array of traditional and emerging disciplines. No matter what students study, they work with creative techniques and innovative solutions that push the boundaries of their future profession and deliver real solutions to the challenges of today – and tomorrow.

What's new

What's new

UTS x Flow Systems

UTS is tapping into water sourced from the Flow Systems wastewater recycling plant, located across the road from the UTS Broadway campus at the vibrant Central Park development.

To connect the Flow Systems plant to the basement of UTS Central, horizontal drills burrowed a path under the road to make way for pipes. With the tap officially turned on, recycled water will now flow to the UTS campus to be used for landscaping, toilet flushing and in cooling towers.

It's expected that the partnership will reduce UTS's potable water use by around 40,000 kl – or sixteen Olympic swimming pools – each year.

Rooftop solar at UTS Tech Lab

UTS is innovating urban power generation with a unique 25-year licence to operate a 1.1-megawatt urban solar farm at the UTS Tech Lab and the surrounding business park.

More than 3,500 solar panels will generate 1,430,000 kWh of clean energy each year, which is around three per cent of the university's energy needs and enough to power nearly 300 Australian homes.

UTS can use generated energy on-site to fully power Tech Lab operations, with additional generation offset against power use at the Broadway campus.

Teaching quality

Teaching quality

UTS's award-winning model of learning is a framework for practice-oriented learning and teaching. It guides how the curriculum is designed and links to the development of graduate attributes.

UTS believes that practice-oriented education is crucial to student success. In their degree, students gain exposure to professional practice through experiences such as internships, simulations and case-based approaches to learning.

The university also prepares students to be ready for a global workplace. With one of the largest student mobility programs in Australia, students are encouraged to think globally and gain a unique experience in another country while studying. Global opportunities extend beyond the classroom and students can build international and intercultural capabilities through the UTS BUILD program.

UTS emphasises research-inspired and integrated learning, active engagement with research methods and outcomes, developing skills in critical thinking, and creative and analytical approaches that will help them to become lifelong learners.

English-language proficiency test scores are recognised by UTS provided they were obtained less than two years prior to application at UTS and applicants meet the admission requirements for the relevant course.
