The University of Technology Sydney (UTS) is one of the world's top 200 universities (Times Higher Education Rankings 2019) and based in the vibrant Australian city of Sydney.

Its main campus has been transformed in recent years by over AUD 1 billion investment, creating state-of-the-art facilities in the heart of Sydney's central business district. This location gives outstanding industry access and a creative hub, but is also a convenient location for students to enjoy one of the most famous cities in the world.

UTS was only established in 1988 but has rapidly become a leading university, gaining recognition for its practice-based teaching and learning with an industry focus and use of real-world research. UTS is one of four prominent universities making up the Australian Technology Network and committing to delivering practical and professional courses by working with industry and government. Over 130 undergraduate and 180 postgraduate courses are offered to the 40,000 enrolled students, ranging from traditional subjects to emerging disciplines, but all with a focus on undertaking professional practice during study.

What's new

IKEA x UTS Future Living Lab

UTS and IKEA have established a new collaboration, providing a local design hub for aspiring young designers, thought leaders and the community. The design hub, known as IKEA x UTS Future Living Lab, is located on the UTS campus in Ultimo, Sydney.

The collaboration brings together IKEA's expertise with academics and students from the UTS Product Design and Interior Architecture programs. The partnership also includes design organisations, designers, as well as the community to create new ideas to produce exhibitions, prototypes and events addressing the unique needs of the Australian home.

UTS Central

In 2019 UTS Central will open its doors to students, staff and the community. UTS Central will be a vibrant student hub and faculty space at the heart of the campus. As well as the new UTS Library, the building will include a scholarly reading room, a wealth of student study spaces, and an inviting, food court that will open onto Alumni Green and be accessible to the general public. UTS Central is the final significant capital development project to be delivered as part of the billion-dollar-plus UTS Campus Master Plan.

Faculty of Arts and Social Sciences

The faculty houses the schools of Communication, Education and International Studies. The School of Communication will help students bring their creative vision to life while UTS's industry-leading education degrees help students shape the next generation of learners.

UTS Business School

Take advantage of the UTS Business School's unique location at the centre of Australia's most important business, technology and creative precincts.

Faculty of Design, Architecture and Building

The faculty consists of three schools that allow students to create, make, design and build using the latest techniques and technologies.

Faculty of Engineering and Information Technology

UTS's Engineering and IT courses prepare students for the challenges of tomorrow. The students benefit from a practice-based education through the work experience embedded in courses.

Faculty of Health

The faculty offers an innovative, practice-oriented and globally relevant education and research in a broad range of health disciplines, like nursing, midwifery, sport and exercise, and health sciences.

Graduate School of Health

The school specialises in innovative, practice-based programs like pharmacy, orthoptics, and physiotherapy. Professional partnerships, expert staff and world-class facilities are the foundational pillars of the school.

Faculty of Law

UTS Law is ranked 40th in the world by QS World University Rankings by Subject 2018. The faculty's research was recognized as ‘above world standard' by the Australian Government's Excellence in Research Australia 2015.

Faculty of Transdisciplinary Innovation

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

English-language requirements

International students whose previous education was not conducted in English are required to demonstrate proficiency in English by completing an English-language test or program recognized by UTS. English-language proficiency test scores are recognized by UTS provided they were obtained less than two years prior to application at UTS.

Academic requirements

For entry into undergraduate courses at UTS, students require a competitive pass in a recognized matriculation examination, equivalent to an Australian Year 12 qualification.

For admission into undergraduate honours coursework and most postgraduate courses, students must hold a recognized and relevant bachelor's degree equivalent to an Australian bachelor's degree.

Note: in addition to these academic requirements, some courses may have specific admission requirements.

Facilities

UTS has invested AUD 1.3 billion in the UTS Campus Master Plan to deliver an engaging and vibrant education precinct. This decade-long reinvention through the Master Plan has resulted in a range of research and industry engagement spaces that support the delivery of the university's state-of-the-art teaching, technology-based model of learning and industry-focused research.

The UTS Alumni Green consists of student-focused spaces, creating a meeting place for the university student community. It has won several awards including the Civic Landscape Award at the 2016 National Landscape Architecture Awards.

The university's location offers international students places to eat, shop, and socialize within a short distance. Students can access the Central Station, Sydney's major transport hub, which is only a few minutes' walk away, and the major tourist attractions like the Harbour Bridge and the Opera House are within 10 minutes on public transport.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

The University of Technology Sydney has committed a sum of AUD 30 million towards a diverse range of scholarships and grants for commencing and current international students pursuing undergraduate and postgraduate programs until 2020. Scholarships are available to international students in particular faculties as well as across the university.

Undergraduate student scholarships

  • UTS Undergraduate Academic Excellence Scholarships – valued at AUD 10,000, and awarded to the highest achieving international students who enrol in undergraduate coursework programs.
  • UTS Insearch to UTS Pathways Scholarship – awarded to the highest achieving UTS Insearch graduates who commence their education at UTS.
  • Full Tuition Scholarships – are awarded to the highest achieving international undergraduate students who are starting their education at UTS in the autumn and spring session of 2019.

Postgraduate student scholarships

  • UTS Postgraduate Academic Excellence Scholarships – scholarships valued at AUD 5,000 and awarded to the highest achieving international students who commence their education at UTS by enrolling in the postgraduate coursework programs.
  • Full Tuition Scholarships – awarded to the highest achieving international students commencing at the university for postgraduate coursework in both the autumn and spring session 2019.

On 26 January 1988, with the commencement of the University of Technology, Sydney, Act, the former New South Wales Institute of Technology became the University of Technology, Sydney.

University of Technology Sydney is a dynamic and innovative university in central Sydney. One of Australia?s leading universities of technology, it has a distinct model of learning, strong research performance and a leading reputation for engagement with industry and the professions, and has a culturally diverse campus life and vibrant international exchange study and research programs that prepare graduates for the workplaces of today and the future. The University is part of the Australian Technology Network of universities which is a group of five prominent universities committed to working with industry and government to deliver practical and professional courses. It is known for the industry focus, practice based teaching and learning, real world research and its location.
