University of Warwick

United Kingdom
Overview

Overview

The University of Warwick is a world-leading university (77th, Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2019), which offers a strong academic challenge for students. However, Warwick is much more than this. The institution is a place which inspires, excites, invigorates and supports.

For over 55 years Warwick has remained highly regarded and is ranked 9th in the UK by The Guardian University Guide 2020. Today, the university’s three Faculties of Arts Social Sciences and Science, Engineering and Medicine continue to pioneer and excel. Each faculty is focused on the power of unbounded learning, motivating its students to pursue subjects outside of their home department. As a result of this approach, Warwick’s graduates benefit from a versatility of thinking that prepares them for a competitive global market.

The focus on working across boundaries is also evident through Warwick’s internationally recognised research rated 7th among UK research universities by the Research Excellence Framework, 2014. Each of Warwick’s students share a curious nature, and each finds inspiration from a community of more than 27,000 students, representing around 150 nations.

Warwick’s facilities are designed with students’ intellectual development and individual learning approach in mind. From this base, students are well placed to explore further afield. Students have great access to Coventry city centre and the nearby towns of Leamington Spa, Stratford-upon-Avon and Kenilworth. The university is also a short train ride from Birmingham, the UK’s second city and London is only an hour’s train ride.

Student life at Warwick provides students with skills development and experiences that will build their employability profile. Support is readily available for students to reflect on what it is that’s making them more employable with the university the 3rd most targeted university by the UK’s top 100 graduate employers (The Graduate Market in 2020, High Fliers Research).

According to the most recent countrywide assessment in the Research Excellence Framework, Warwick was ranked 7th among UK research universities.

Students can expect to be taught the latest in critical and innovative thinking. Although support will always be available, students will benefit from teaching that allows for the development of independent learning skills. Students are encouraged to think across subject disciplines and supported in undertaking student research to help them learn deeper.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Entry requirements for students vary depending on the course and level of study. Warwick lists international student entry requirements for each country of origin.

English Language requirements

All students, whether undergraduate or postgraduate, are required to show English language capability that will enable them to succeed on their course of study. Students must be able to understand and communicate effectively in written and spoken English. The level of English language ability required may also vary based on the selected course.

The majority of students can show their English language competency through a GCSE English Language qualification or through English courses within the International Baccalaureate. If students do not have these qualifications, other accepted English tests include IELTS and PTE. These must have been taken within the two years before the start of term to be sufficient evidence of English language skill.

International students that require a visa to study in the UK may also be asked to submit evidence of an English language test (e.g. IELTS) instead of an examination (such as GCSE English) due to the visa restrictions set by the government.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

The University of Warwick offers a number of different scholarships and funding schemes for international students. Available scholarships are listed by country.

Foreign loans

For international students without a scholarship or grant funding, private funding may also be an option for covering the costs of studying at the university. Warwick accepts a variety of overseas loans for students funding full-time education. This includes government funded loans, or private education loans.

For students considering government funding, it is best to contact the local British Council or Education Department to get advice on how to apply.

Private education loans are another option available to international students, however they are not easy to secure. Student visas and proof of sufficient income are often required by many banks and lenders before loans will be awarded to students. For information on how to apply for private funding, students can contact the Student Finance Office.
