ORT learning in 2021

Until the Australian borders open again, VU is offering a selection of courses via Online Real Time (ORT) learning. This option allows students to commence their studies in their home country and then complete their qualification in Melbourne as soon as it is safe to travel to Australia. ORT learning maintains a classroom environment using Zoom and allows students to take part in group discussions, interact with classmates and get immediate feedback. There is a small number of students in each virtual classroom. Courses available online include:

  • College of Engineering and Science

  • College of Health and Biomedicine

  • College of Sport and Exercise Science

  • VU Business School

  • VU College (including higher education diplomas, English language and foundation studies)

Vocational education and training courses are not available online.

For international students in Australia, the university is currently offering online real-time learning across its comprehensive course range. The university will return to on-campus, in-person learning once local restrictions are eased.

No.1 for employability

VU graduates have been ranked Australia's most employable by more than 3,400 Australian employers. According to the 2020 Quality Indicators for Learning and Teaching Employer Satisfaction Survey, Australia's most in-depth survey of employer satisfaction, Victoria University ranked number one in Australia for employability skills at 92.8 per cent second for adaptive skills and collaborative skills and third for foundation skills. Employability skills rated students for being able to work under pressure, be flexible in the workplace, meet deadlines, grasp the nature of the business and demonstrate leadership skills.

In other fantastic news, Victoria University has been ranked third in Australia for learner engagement, and fifth for skills development, according to the Australian Government's 2020 Student Experience Survey (SES).

Block Model

Block Model

VU's multi-award-winning Block Model is now being delivered across all undergraduate and postgraduate coursework qualifications. With smaller, collaborative classes, students will focus on one or two units at a time instead of juggling four units at once. The university's timetabling also allows for greater flexibility and better work/life/study balance.

By studying in the VU Block Model, students have a better chance of achieving academic success. The current undergraduate pass rate is 93 per cent, with 53 per cent of those results a distinction or above, all achieved during the Covid-19 pandemic and studied via digitally-supported remote learning.

Block model benefits

Connection

With more focused timetables and collaborative classes with one group at a time, the Block Model gives students more time to connect with their peers, lecturers and industry partners, helping them to build strong professional networks.

Flexibility

The postgraduate Block Model courses give students the freedom to achieve a better work/life/study balance with more start dates, part- and full-time study, and remote delivery and on-campus options.

Focus

Block Model is designed to allow students to be more focused in both the four-week and eight-week modes, studying one or two units at a time instead of juggling the traditional four units at once.

VU has received numerous accolades for its Australian-exclusive pedagogy and First-Year College, which has been designed specifically for first-year students to make the transition to tertiary education easier. Awards include:

  • 2020 Australian Award for University Teaching by Universities Australia
  • 2018 International Education Association of Australia Excellence Awards – Innovation
  • Victorian International Education Awards – Excellence in International Education
