Study in Malaysia for Saudi Students: Everything you need to know in 2026

Top cities to study abroad for international students

Looking for a study destination that offers quality education, affordable costs and a lifestyle that feels comfortable? Malaysia is becoming an increasingly popular choice for Saudi students.

With globally recognised universities, English-taught programs and a Muslim-friendly community, Malaysia offers a study abroad experience that feels both exciting and familiar. Here’s everything you need to know about studying in Malaysia in 2026.

Why Saudi Students Choose Malaysia

Studying abroad is a big decision, and for many Saudi students, Malaysia offers the right balance between quality education, affordability, cultural comfort and more:

  • Affordable compared to major study destinations: Compared to countries such as the UK, the USA or Australia, studying in Malaysia is significantly more budget-friendly. Tuition fees and living costs are generally lower, helping students access quality education without the same financial pressure.

  • Muslim-friendly community: Malaysia is a Muslim-majority country, which makes daily life easier for many Saudi students. Halal food is widely available, mosques are everywhere and Islamic practices are naturally part of daily life.

  • English-taught programs: Many top Malaysian universities offer programs fully taught in English, especially in fields such as engineering, business, medicine and IT. This gives students access to international-quality education while strengthening their English skills.

  • Closer to home: Malaysia is around an 8-hour flight from Saudi Arabia, making travel manageable during semester breaks or family visits.

Student Visa & EMGS Process

To study in Malaysia, international students need a student visa and a student pass.

The application process is usually managed through Education Malaysia Global Services (EMGS), which handles international student visa processing in Malaysia.

Here’s how the process typically works:

  1. Receive Your Offer Letter: Secure admission to a Malaysian institution recognised by EMGS.

  2. Student Pass Application (VAL): Your university submits your documents to EMGS and Malaysian Immigration to apply for your Student Pass approval, known as the Visa Approval Letter (VAL).

  3. Apply for a Single-Entry Visa (If Required): Once your VAL is approved, some students may need to apply for a Single-Entry Visa (SEV) before travelling to Malaysia, depending on nationality.

  4. Arrive in Malaysia: After arrival, your university will submit your passport to Immigration so your Student Pass sticker can be issued. You may also complete identity verification or medical screening if needed.

  5. Receive Your Student Pass and iKad: Once approved, you’ll receive your Student Pass and iKad (student ID), allowing you to legally stay in Malaysia throughout your studies.
