Submission guidelines
You are required to create a short film about a chosen topic. Your submission should include:
- A personal statement (500-1,000 words) detailing your passion for film production, your career goals, and how the scholarship will support your aspirations
- A storyboard for your short film
- The film itself (no more than three minutes).
The film can be about any of the following:
- An interest or hobby you are passionate about
- A showcase of where you live
- Why you want to study in Birmingham, UK.
The aim of this scholarship is to support aspiring film-makers who demonstrate exceptional talent, creativity, and passion for storytelling through film production.
Birmingham City University is ranked 1st in the UK for Film Production and Photography (The Guardian 2025), so competition for places is fierce. We are offering three individual scholarships in this area, worth £1,000, £1,500 and £2,500 respectively.
Assessment
Submissions will be assessed according to the following criteria:
- Creativity and originality of work
- Technical proficiency and storytelling ability
- Passion and commitment to film production.
Terms and Conditions
- Applicant must hold an offer to study Film and Technology or Media.
- Discount will be deducted from the tuition fee payment during the second semester. If full tuition fee is paid, discount will be applied when student progresses to BCU.
- This discount does not apply to students who are sponsored by a government/ organisation/company.
- This discount applies to students joining BCUIC in the September 2025/January 2026 intakes only.
- Limited number available offered on a first come, first served basis.
- Applications submitted after the deadline will not be considered.
