The Garden Scholarship

As part of your application, applicants must also include a personal statement which confirms and/or addresses each of the following questions (500 words maximum):

• Confirm your current employer and your current post.
• Outline your career objectives and how these objectives will be enhanced by completion of the PgCert in Surgical Writing and Evidence Based Practice.
• Any additional information that you believe will enhance your application.

The scholarship will be awarded on the basis of academic merit and the strength of your personal statement.

The Garden Scholarship will be awarded to applicants who are either:

• Accepted for admission to the PgCert Surgical Writing and Evidence Based Practice (online learning) programme in the 2026-2027 academic year. Applicants should already have been offered a place at the University of Edinburgh and should have firmly accepted that offer or be intending to do so. Preference will be given to those who have an unconditional offer at time of the scholarship application deadline, or,
• Currently enrolled on the PgProfDev Surgical Writing and Evidence Based Practice (online learning) programme and wish to complete the PG Certificate.

The Garden Scholarship would particularly welcome applications from students from sub-Saharan Africa.

Domiciles not included in the list below unfortunately are not eligible for the Scholarship: Angola, Gabon, Nepal, Bangladesh, Gambia, Niger, Benin, Ghana, Nigeria, Botswana, Guinea, Rwanda, Burkina Faso, Guinea Bissau, Sao Tome and Principe, Burundi, Haiti, Senegal, Cambodia, Kenya, Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Kiribati, Solomon Islands, Cape Verde, Lao, People's Democratic Republic, Somalia, Central African Republic, Lesotho, South Africa, Chad, Liberia, South Sudan, Comoros, Libya, Sudan, Congo, Madagascar, Tanzania, Côte d'Ivoire, Malawi, Timor-Leste, Democratic Republic of the Congo, Mali, Togo, Djibouti, Mauritania, Tunisia, Egypt, Mauritius, Tuvalu, Equatorial Guinea, Morocco, Uganda, Eritrea, Mozambique, Western Sahara, Eswatini, Myanmar, Yemen, Ethiopia, Namibia, Zambia, Zimbabwe.
