Selection criteria:
The scholarship will be offered as part of the Faculty of Arts PhD candidature selection process based on the PhD application, prior academic performance and whether the potential candidate has the skills, experience and aptitude required to carry out the proposed PhD, and based on the potential candidate's commitment to the field of Eastern Indonesian studies.
This scholarship will support a student enrolling in the Doctor of Philosophy - Arts. This scholarship was established by a gift in will from Richard Chauvel to support a PhD candidate from Eastern Indonesia, or to someone who is working on important Eastern Indonesian projects, particularly in Papua.
Benefits
AUD $40,000 per year for the first 3 years of a full-time PhD candidature, and, with the approval of an extension, of up to 6 months paid at the Australian Government Research Training Program Scholarships (RTP) rate of that year. Recipients are entitled to the same benefits as the RTP, subject to the terms and conditions outlined here.
Requirements
Successful applicants are required to :
accept the award online within 21 days and,
provide a short report at the end of each calendar year for the duration of your enrolment and at the end of your PhD candidature.
Eligibility
To be eligible for this scholarship, you must:
meet the entry requirements for and be enrolling in the full-time Doctor of Philosophy - Arts (DR-PHILART) in the field of Eastern Indonesian studies or projects, particularly in Papua and,
not have already completed a research qualification at the equivalent level as the course for which the scholarship is sought.
