In making the recommendations, the selection committee gives equal consideration to: a. academic achievement, especially in any three of the subjects Chemistry, Physics, Calculus, Mathematics, and Statistics b. leadership potential and c. involvement in sport, cultural, and/or community activities.
If, in any year, there are fewer candidates of sufficient merit than there are scholarships available, fewer scholarships are offered.
The Nelson Science Scholarship was founded in memory of his wife Chrissie Mayo Evans and his mother Louisa Bishop Evans by an old boy of Nelson College who for some years was closely connected with Canterbury College.

Applicable Enrolment During Tenure: The scholarship is tenable during full-time or part-time enrolment in a Bachelor of Science (BSc) and, if applicable, a BSc(Hons) and/or a Master of Science (MSc) at the University
Special Requirements: Recipients must have been enrolled at Te Kura Tamat?ne o Whakat? Nelson College for not less than two years. Recipients, on 1 March of the year of tenure, must be at least 16 years old
