The Whiteley Award offers £3,000 per year for a UK undergraduate student from an under-represented background who has successfully completed the Liverpool Scholars or Pathways to Medicine programme.
Award
The Trustees of the A H and Mrs B C Whiteley Trust have generously funded the Whiteley Award at the University of Liverpool to support students from under-represented backgrounds to study medicine.
The award provides £3,000 per year for a UK student who has successfully completed the Liverpool Scholars or Pathways to Medicine programme, to support them during their undergraduate medical studies. The Award is made on the basis of academic excellence and interview performance, as well as widening participation characteristics.
The late Mrs B C Whiteley originally bequeathed £82,000 to the University, which was used to purchase equipment in the Department of Haematology and Pancreatic Research Unit in 2011. The Trustees of her charity then decided to make further donations to the University to establish the Whiteley Award.
Trustee Keith Clayton said: ''We were keen to make a contribution which could have a real impact. Being able to support students who may not have been expected to go to university is very fulfilling and we're delighted by the success of the scheme so far''.
Liverpool Scholars and Pathways to Medicine students will receive information about the Whiteley Award, including guidance on selection, in the summer term of Year 12.
