University of Sunderland First Choice Travel Award

Who is eligible?
1. You must be a 'Home' student on an eligible course

The Government classes all students as ‘Home' or ‘International'. This status determines which tuition fees you pay, and which scholarships and bursaries you may be eligible to receive.

EU students with a UK Settled Status at the time of application are eligible.

International students are not eligible.

2. You must successfully complete our First Choice Progression Scheme

You must successfully complete our First Choice Progression Scheme to be considered for the First Choice Travel Award.

Students must attend i) the welcome session, ii) the compulsory workshop and iii) the three-day summer school.

To be considered for the award, you must also:

Apply to the University of Sunderland by Wednesday, 14 January 2026
Make the University of Sunderland your firm choice by Wednesday, 3 June 2026
Enrol on your course by Monday, 6 October 2026

3. You must apply for and meet the conditions of your offer, then successfully enrol onto an eligible course

You must be applying to start an eligible full-time undergraduate course in autumn 2026 based at City Campus, Sir Tom Cowie at St Peter's Campus, or the Northern Academy of Music Education (NAME).

You must successfully enrol on an eligible course by Monday, 6 October 2026, three weeks after the start of your course.
