Eligibility & selection criteria:
Black students who are entering the Master of Mathematics for Teachers program in the Centre for Education in Mathematics and Computing (CEMC) at the University of Waterloo.
Applicants must teach Mathematics at a school in Canada or internationally.
Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated an ability to impact the mathematics education of Black students.
A committee administered by the CEMC will select recipients annually in June based on both the applications for admission and scholarship.
Award description:
Two scholarships, each valued at a maximum of CAN $5,000, will be awarded annually to Black students entering into the Master of Mathematics for Teachers (MMT) program at the University of Waterloo. In order to be considered for the scholarship, candidates must teach Mathematics at a school in Canada or internationally. Preference will be given to students who have demonstrated an ability to impact the mathematics education of Black students. This scholarship is made possible by a donation from Scotiabank.
