Selection criteria:
The Department's Studentship Selection Committee meets after the submission deadline to allocate the awards. The awards are allocated purely on the basis of academic merit, taking into account the quality of the research proposal, past academic transcripts, and references.
We will only consider candidates who already have an offer of a place to study with us, or whose applications have already been reviewed and deemed likely to merit an offer. Therefore you should aim to submit your online PhD application at the latest, to give the department enough time to carry out a review.
The studentships cover the four-year period of the integrated PhD programme. However, years 2-4 of the studentship will be conditional on successful completion of the 1st year.
The studentships cover home fees (£4,806 for 2024/25) and provide an annual stipend based on the UKRI stipend rate (currently £18,622). They are open to all, but International and EU students will be expected to cover the difference between home and overseas fees.
Open to EU, International (non-EU) and UK (home) students.
Open to students in the Department of Economics and Related Studies.
Only students registered on the Integrated PhD in Economics, who have at least one supervisor based within the Department of Economics and Related Studies, are eligible to be considered for a Studentship. The Centre for Health Economics is considered a separate department in this context, and students registered on the PhD in Health Economics are not eligible for consideration.
