PhD Departmental Studentships

The Department's Studentship Selection Committee meets after the submission deadline to allocate the awards. The awards are allocated purely on the basis of academic merit, taking into account the quality of the research proposal, past academic transcripts, and references.

The studentships cover the four-year period of the integrated PhD programme. However, years 2-4 of the studentship will be conditional on successful completion of the 1st year.

The studentship covers the home fee rate and provides an annual stipend based on the UKRI stipend rate (£20,780 for 2025/26). The studentship is open to all, but International and EU students will be expected to cover the difference between the home and overseas fee rate.

You must have applied online for a place on the integrated PhD in Economics before applying for the scholarship.

We will only consider candidates who already have an offer of a place to study with us for September 2026, or whose applications have already been reviewed and deemed likely to merit an offer. Therefore you should aim to submit your online PhD application in advance of the studentship deadline.
