First wire transfer is free with a new GIC account
The Toronto-Dominion Bank (TD) and IDP are collaborating to provide students with the ability to purchase a GIC prior to their arrival in Canada to meet the proof of financial support requirement for their study permit application. At TD we offer the following:
- No application fee to open the GIC, with interest accruing at a competitive rate even before arrival in Canada.
- Funding your GIC is simple and flexible by allowing family and friends to fund your account over one or multiple wire payments.
- The TD Student Chequing Account comes with no monthly fee and unlimited transactions, until the customer is 23 years old or with proof of enrolment in full-time post-secondary education.
- One simple online application to open both a TD Student Chequing Account and a TD International Student GIC. There is no limit to the number of wire (transfer) payments you can send to your TD Student Chequing Account until you arrive in Canada.
- Ability to monitor the TD Student Chequing and TD International Student GIC accounts using online banking even before arrival in Canada.
* To qualify for this offer, customers must leverage IDP’s unique URL for the TD International Student GIC Program. Customers will be reimbursed the incoming wire (transfer) for the first wire payment only. This offer is subject to change.
* Posting information relating to TD is not, and should not be construed as, solicitation or invitation for availing services, by TD. Information by TD in relation to ISGIC program will be available to non-Canadian residents only at their request.
How it works:
Step 1: Submit your application online
Complete the online application to open both a TD Student Chequing Account and a TD International Student GIC. Once you have successfully submitted the application and completed the ID verification process, you will receive information about your TD Student Chequing Account and wire (transfer) payment instructions.
Step 2: Send wire (transfer) payment
To fund your TD Student Chequing Account, you can send multiple wire (transfer) payments for the initial GIC purchase of $20,635 and as many wire (transfer) payments as you want up until the time of your arrival in Canada.
Step 3: Receive your TD International Student GIC
Once TD receives your wire (transfer) payment of $20,635 CAD or more, then TD will invest your money in a TD International Student GIC, and a Confirmation of Investment document will be sent to you by email. Any additional funds will remain in your TD Student Chequing Account.
Step 4: Book an in-branch appointment
Once you have arrived in Canada, book an appointment at one of our 1,000 + branches to verify your identity, sign the required documentation, activate your account, and receive your first payout of the TD International Student GIC!
