Overview

Located in the coastal city of Brisbane, Queensland University of Technology (QUT) is one of Australia's most progressive modern universities, with an industry-focused approach towards tuition, and a global outlook which connects its students with the wider world of business and research.

Start online, come when possible

Students can commence their QUT course online without delays to their student life. With the university's extensive online learning resources, student support services, and dedicated staff, students will excel in their study. They will have the opportunity to engage in real-world learning at the top young university in Australia.

Award-winning research

QUT has been awarded USD 6.1 million in Australian Research Council (ARC) Linkage and Discovery projects for 2020 and 2021.

QUT has been awarded AUD 1,200,955 for three ARC Linkage Projects and AUD 4,917,549 for 13 Discovery projects.

The Linkage Projects promote research partnerships between businesses, researchers, industry community organisations and publicly funded research agencies. The Discovery projects cover research in engineering, science, law and the creative industries.

John Monash Scholar

Jessie Hughes, a QUT alumnus, a design strategist and creative technologist, was named a 2020 John Monash Scholar.

She was awarded AUD 140,000 over two years towards her Master of Design at Harvard University or Master of Media, Arts and Science at MIT Media Lab in Cambridge. Her studies will explore advanced approaches to technology and society.

Hughes said, ''My main focus is on the cross-intersection of design, technology, art and strategy for social innovation. I am aiming to lead the design of systems, media, and tools to improve the livelihood of Australians, and others, through creative innovation and emerging technology.''

Teaching quality

Queensland University of Technology is recognised as 'the university for the real world' due to its close links with industry, as well as its applied research and relevant teaching. Both professionals and industry representatives contribute to the university's course development, combining theoretical education with a practical perspective.

The university's faculty consult in industry and also handle industry projects which often see participation from students. Both students and staff have access to the advanced teaching and technology at the university.

While studying at the university, students study with access to the latest technology and learning spaces, learn from the best lecturers, and get lots of hands-on experience with the industry to prepare them for the real world. Students undertake work-integrated learning experiences, including internships, placements, case studies and projects embedded in their courses.

Student safety

Department structure

QUT offers numerous study options:

Business

As the first triple internationally accredited business school in Australia, QUT prepares students for employment nationally and internationally. 90 per cent of its business graduates were found to have been employed four months after graduation.

Creative industries

QUT's creative industries is ranked first in Australia for communication and media studies (QS World University Rankings 2021). The university offers Australia's largest combination of creative disciplines and a wide array of industry partnerships.

Education

The university's educators have been ranked as world standard or above in the field of education research as per the Excellence in Research for Australia assessment. Study options are research informed and taught by award winning lecturers.

Engineering

QUT engineering courses provide students hands-on learning along with real-world applications. Students will be equipped with skills to create and design structures, machines and more they also have access to top-notch facilities.

Health

QUT equips students with the skills to become successful future health professionals, with its learning environments featuring leading industry equipment, simulation facilities, and virtual technology.

Justice

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Academic entry requirements

Students should check the course information to determine the academic requirements they need to meet. This includes any additional requirements like interviews, auditions, or portfolios.

English proficiency requirements

Students must meet the English language requirements for their chosen course. Queensland University of Technology accepts results from several standardised tests. Students must check individual programme pages to view details. Students must take a proficiency test no longer than two years before they commence their courses.

The university accepts test results from:

  • Cambridge English: Advanced (CAE)
  • Cambridge English: Proficiency (CPE)
  • IELTS (Academic)
  • Pearson Test of English (PTE Academic)
  • TOEFL iBT (internet-based)

If students do not meet the requisite English language test scores or adequate academic requirements for their preferred courses, the university may offer them a course package, which incorporates their degree course with an English language or pathway program. When students pass these programs, they can move directly on to their full degree.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

The university offers international students many scholarships including:

International merit scholarships

High-achieving international students may be eligible for a merit scholarship, provided they meet required academic conditions.

The recipients will receive one of the following:

  • a scholarship covering 25 per cent of course fees for the first two semesters
  • an ongoing scholarship covering 25 per cent of course fees per semester

These scholarships cover a range of undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in business, creative industries, education, science and engineering. Students applying to study health-related courses may be eligible to receive a scholarship covering 25 per cent of the course fees for the first two semesters. Students don't need to apply separately and will be considered for the scholarship when applying.
