Overview

Saskatchewan Polytechnic is located in Saskatchewan, a region which is often referred to as Canada's ‘Land of Living Skies'. International students from all over the globe study at Saskatchewan Polytechnic, either on campus or online.

The institution has campuses in Saskatoon, Moose Jaw, Prince Albert and Regina and is part of Polytechnics Canada along with 12 other research-intensive, industry-responsive institutions.

Students can choose from undergraduate degree/postgraduate certificates and diplomas which are designed to improve the economic and public sectors. They are provided with industry knowledge and are shown how to develop business skills. 93 percent of students said they were ‘satisfied to very satisfied' with the quality of their programs.

Saskatchewan Polytechnic is dedicated to supporting its international students. There are a number of scholarships and bursaries offered per year, totalling over CAD 2 million. The international student advisor team supports students throughout their studies, assisting with academic, language and personal needs.

Students can pick from homestays, residential or private housing for accommodation. They can also enjoy a range of clubs and social activities organized by the Students' Association, where there are many events and sports facilities provided across each campus.

The Student Employment Service ensures a collaborative education and works closely with employers. Students can take advantage of careers fairs and the strong global alumni network which has many valuable partnerships.

94 percent of students in the labour force are employed within the first year of graduating. This is because businesses are on the lookout for innovative and ambitious individuals who can bring new ideas to improve industries and technologies.

Entry requirements

Entry requirements

Admission requirements are specific to each program at Saskatchewan Polytechnic. Students will need an equivalent to a minimum of a Saskatchewan grade 12 from a recognized institution.

The majority of programs use the First Qualified, First Admitted (FQFA) application method. Therefore, students who apply for a program early enough in advance will have more chance of getting a place on a program.

Programs can only take a certain number of students and places are in high demand, so students are encouraged to apply as soon as they can. Applications open in October for programs beginning in September and January (for the next academic year).

For programs that begin in January, students are recommended to apply before the previous May.

Students will also need to meet the English language requirements. All programs require an IELTS score of at least 6.5, or equivalent.

EAP program

Saskatchewan Polytechnic gives students the opportunity to develop and strengthen their English language skills through their newly developed English for Success courses. The courses assist students to improve their language test scores and meet the English language entry requirement for Sask Polytech programs.

Upon successful completion of English for Success Level 2, students will meet the English language entrance requirements for their chosen Sask Polytech program. The program is for international applicants who:

  • Are applying to a First Qualified First Admitted (FQFA) Sask Polytech post-secondary program.
    • Note: English for Academic Purposes is not an option for students applying to Bachelor of Nursing (BScN), Practical Nursing or Power Engineering.
  • Meet the admission requirements (except for the English Language Requirement) for the post-secondary program they are applying to.
  • Have an overall IELTS academic score (or other accepted equivalent) of at least 5.5, but less than 6.5.

Scholarships & funding

Scholarships & funding

Sask Polytech is well supported by donors and alumni, meaning that the institution offers around CAD 2 million each year in student awards and financial aid. International students have the opportunity to apply for a number of merit-based scholarships. These are primarily adjudicated on the basis of academic achievement and performance. Students are encouraged to explore the awards available and check their eligibility. There are currently no scholarships available for those applying to study at Sask Polytech for the first time. However, the achievement-based awards are offered throughout the duration of student's study at the institution.

In order to qualify for scholarships students must be enrolled for a Sask Polytech programme and have received confirmation of their enrolment. Students are able to use marks, which can be accessed after completing one semester, achieved in a Sask Polytech program in their application.
