The University of Lincoln was officially opened by Queen Elizabeth II in 1996 and is today home to over 16,000 students from across more than 100 countries. Since opening it has welcomed over 90,000 students from 135 countries and is located in the historic city of Lincoln.

The university is placed amongst the world's top 150 universities in the Times Higher Education's (THE) Young University Rankings 2020, and is a top 20 UK university for overall student satisfaction in the latest National Student Survey 2020. Lincoln is also ranked as a top 100 institution in the UK by the Guardian University Guide 2021. The institution has also been recognised for the quality of its teaching, having been awarded gold in the Teaching Excellence Framework. Students benefit from excellent academic support and enjoy excellent graduate outcomes.

January/February 2021 admissions

Applications are now open for a range of University of Lincoln postgraduate programmes commencing in January/February 2021. For eligible students, the university are offering a number of country specific and merit based international scholarships ranging from GBP 2,000 to 50 per cent of tuition fees.

Lincoln ranked among the world's best 150 Young Universities

The University of Lincoln has been named among the top 150 young universities in the world in the Times Higher Education's (THE) Young University Rankings 2020. The rankings list the world's best universities that are 50 years old or younger, assessing them across teaching, research, international outlook and their work with industry. Lincoln rated in top 20 UK universities in the National Student Survey

The University of Lincoln has been rated in the top 20 universities in the UK for overall student satisfaction in the new National Student Survey 2020.

Lincoln was ranked 14th, out of 129 mainstream universities, for the proportion of final year undergraduates who agreed or strongly agreed they were satisfied with the quality of their course overall. At subject level, Lincoln rated number one in the UK for overall student satisfaction in four subject areas, namely economics, biochemistry, human geography and zoology.

Student Choice Awards place Lincoln among UK's top 10 in three categories

The University of Lincoln has been ranked among the UK's top ten in three categories of the 2020 WhatUni Student Choice Awards, which are collated from over 41,000 student reviews.

In the latest rankings, the University of Lincoln was placed 5th for local life and 7th for international, a recognition of the diverse and welcoming university community.

Lincoln was also ranked 7th (out of 24) for postgraduate opportunities and experience, 26th for facilities, and 28th in the university of the year category.

Teaching & learning

Teaching & learning

The University of Lincoln was awarded Gold in the UK's national Teaching Excellence Framework in June 2017, for delivering "consistently outstanding teaching, learning and outcomes for its students". The university was one of only 59 higher education providers, out of almost 300, that entered into the TEF to receive gold, the highest standard possible.

The TEF's panel of experts found "students from all backgrounds... achieve outstanding outcomes" at Lincoln and praised its "comprehensive and embedded approach to student engagement that provides opportunities for students and staff to work closely together''.

The university was also awarded an overall five-star score in the QS Stars rating in 2020 and received the maximum score in categories for teaching and employability.

Lincoln is a top rated UK university with rankings in several areas:

The university is committed to providing students with modern, world-class facilities. Testament to this is the GBP 300 million that has been invested into university facilities since the institution opened in 1996. The quality of the amenities on offer to students was acknowledged by the Times Higher Education Student Experience Survey 2018, which placed the university as the 10th best in the UK.

Students are able to enjoy the perfect blend of the new and old in a picturesque setting. The university campus is located a short walking distance from restaurants, shops, cafes and entertainment venues, a perfect blend for students looking to find a way to relax and socialise outside of their studies. Lincoln is also famous for its Cathedral Quarter and castle, providing plenty for students to see and do. This includes viewing one of the surviving copies of the Magna Carta from 1215.

Student Support

Student Support

For any guidance upon arrival in Lincoln, students are encouraged to visit the Student Support team, which is based in the university's Minerva Building. The team can provide support on a number of issues, including enrolment, financial services, visa compliance, accommodation, academic advice and lots more. There is also a Student Wellbeing Centre that provides a counselling service for those struggling with personal issues whilst studying alongside an on-campus Health Centre.

Extracurricular activities such as volunteering, work experience or contributing to student clubs and societies are formally recognised through The Lincoln Award, an initiative run jointly by the university and Students' Union to help students develop their skills, knowledge and experience and stand out from the crowd to future employers.

Through the university's Students' Union, there is also a wide array of clubs and societies students can get involved in, spanning interests from Parkour to Harry Potter. Lincoln's sports teams compete in British Universities & Colleges Sports (BUCS) competitions and have won several trophies in BUCS competitions over the past few years.

Alumni Network

The University of Lincoln has an active alumni network, with Lincoln graduates keeping in touch from their roles in major international companies, charities and organisations all over the world. Lincoln's global graduate community includes more than 90,000 former Lincoln students across 130 different countries. Inspiring Stories

The University of Lincoln is at the cutting-edge of research into treatments to counteract antibiotic resistant bacteria. The research is being led by Dr Ishwar Singh, from Lincoln's School of Pharmacy, with significant developments being made through the synthesis of an antibiotic substance called teixobactin into a drug treatment.

A pioneering research project to develop better radiotherapy treatment for cancer sufferers is being led by Professor Nigel Allinson MBE from the School of Computer Science. With a GBP 3.3 million grant from the UK's Engineering and Physical Sciences Research Council, the OPTIma (Optimising Proton Therapy Through Imaging), aims to address the treatment of difficult tumours with patients enjoying better outcomes.

Alumni Success Case Study

Lincoln graduate Vicki Phillips was a winner in the prestigious British Council Alumni Awards 2017. The international awards celebrate the outstanding achievements of overseas graduates of British universities. Vicki, who graduated from Lincoln in 2002, won the U.S. award in the Social Impact category for her exceptional contribution to creating positive social change. She served as the Director of Education for the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation where, alongside her team, she developed and executed the largest philanthropic investment in U.S. education, worth over USD 2.8 billion.
