Carleton University roots as a non-denominational college. Founded in 1942, it was created in response to the need to help provide the young people in Ottawa. From its humble beginnings on Ottawa’s First Avenue, Carleton has grown into a dynamic research and teaching institution with a tradition of anticipating and leading change. It has grown to become a leading university recognized for its leadership in teaching, research, community engagement and interdisciplinary study. Carleton is a community that cares about and confronts some of the most challenging problems facing the world.
The university offers 65 programs of study in areas as diverse as public affairs, journalism, film studies, engineering, high technology and international studies. More than 2,000 brilliant professors and staff members constitute a diverse and dedicated team serving 28,000 students. It’s more than 875 academic staff are recognized internationally for their scholarship and cutting edge research in more than 50 disciplines. The students benefit from the interdisciplinary, active, hands on approach to teaching and research practiced by its faculty members and from the numerous partnerships the university has with the federal government, other universities and private sector partners.
