Founded in 1887, McMaster University is one of only four Canadian universities (and one of only two in Ontario) consistently ranked among the top 100 in the world by the major global ranking systems. A medical-doctoral, research-intensive university, McMaster is dedicated to teaching, learning and service. In the 1960s, it pioneered the problem-based approach to learning that came to be known around the world as the McMaster model.
Home to more than 70 research centres and institutes, McMaster is comprised of the Arts & Science Program and six Faculties: The DeGroote School of Business, and the Faculties of Engineering, Health Sciences, Humanities, Science, and Social Sciences.
The McMaster University Library consists of Mills Memorial Library (Humanities and Social Sciences), Innis Library in Kenneth Taylor Hall (Business), the H.G. Thode Library of Science and Engineering, and the Health Sciences Library in the Health Sciences Centre.
The university’s athletic facilities include the Ronald Joyce Stadium, the Ivor Wynne Centre, the David Braley Athletic Centre, nine gymnasiums, an Olympic-sized pool, 200m indoor track, squash courts, a climbing wall, the David Braley Sport Medicine and Rehabilitation Centre, and one of the largest university fitness centres in Canada.
McMaster University is located in the beautiful, eclectic city of Hamilton, Ontario. With a population of over 500,000, Hamilton is the fourth largest city in Ontario, within an hour drive from Toronto, Niagara Falls and the U.S. border. Hamilton is home to a growing arts and culture community, with hundreds of unique shops and restaurants, monthly art crawls, and a vibrant music scene.
