Master of Music in Performance - Choral Conducting

The School of Music offers the Master of Music degree in performance with an emphasis in choral conducting, wind conducting, or orchestral conducting. All degree plans offer a comprehensive study plan that includes specialized courses in repertoire, history, score study and individual conducting lessons. Many graduates of the Master of Music degree in conducting have gone on to fulltime positions at community colleges throughout the United States and on to doctoral programs at some of the finest music schools in America. The Master of Music offers two concentrations: theory/composition and performance. The M.M. is designed to produce graduates who: have advanced and proficient knowledge of music history, literature, and theory, are advanced, reflective and independent practitioners of music through performance/improvisation, composition and analysis at a pre-professional level, demonstrate competence to enter their professional field with a high level of knowledge and skills, are scholars who exercise professional standards of oral and written communication through research documents and oral presentations, demonstrate leadership through successful collaborative experiences, academically and in performance, are intellectually curious in exploring new avenues of expression and creativity in programming, and apply global perspectives and current trends to their acquired knowledge and skills in performance/improvisation, composition, education and career development.

You are eligible to apply as a graduate student if you have earned a degree equivalent to a U.S. bachelor's degree. You must have completed a four-year college course of study and hold an acceptable baccalaureate degree from an institution accredited by a regional accrediting association or an equivalent academic preparation before enrollment in the program. Be in good academic standing at the last college or university attended. Official Transcripts are required from the university where the bachelor\u2019s degree is earned. Submit a word-for-word certified English translation along with the Official original-language transcripts. Have earned a cumulative grade-point average of at least 2.5 from the last degree completed by the candidate or have attained a grade-point average of at least 2.5 (A=4.0) in the last 60 semester (90 quarter) units attempted.
