The Cardiac MonitorElectrocardiography (EKG) Technician program prepares students with the knowledge, experience, exposure and confidence to monitor and interpret cardiac telemetry rhythms as well as perform diagnostic testing to assess heart rhythm and rate. Cardiac MonitorElectrocardiography Technicians play an important role in the management of patients with heart disease or injury by observing, documenting, and reporting normal, abnormal and potentially life-threatening cardiac rhythms to the appropriate medical staff. Electrocardiography Technicians typically work in hospital and outpatient clinic environments while Cardiac Monitor Technicians typically work in the hospital or a centralized monitoring setting. They play a vital role in the lives of cardiac patients and are a critical member of the health care team.
