Global Media and Languages - BA (Hons)

The BA Global Media & Languages is a response to the international demand for expert communicators, able to engage critically and creatively with the cultural, political, and aesthetic impact of media and communication on our interconnected, multilingual world. This requires insight into historical and contemporary contexts of global media, and of the interplay between language and intercultural communication. A key strength of this programme is the combination of in-depth linguistic and cultural study with sophisticated exploration of the media and creative industries. The programme provides students with the necessary awareness, skills and knowledge to become effective intercultural communicators. The programme aims to develop high-level mastery of the chosen target language; an interdisciplinary understanding of how cultural and creative industries operate; an interdisciplinary understanding of the target cultures; critical, analytical, and interpersonal skills; independent thought and self-motivation. Students will benefit from the wide-ranging interdisciplinary expertise of the Department of Languages, Literatures & Cultures and the Department of Culture, Media & Creative Industries - the departments in which the programme is based - and on wider expertise within the Faculty of Arts & Humanities. This is a four-year programme, with the third year spent abroad.
