Year 7

Westwood has been thoughtfully designed to support the youngest members of the Senior School, offering a warm, welcoming environment where pupils can grow in confidence and flourish both academically and socially.
Key Stage 3 (KS3) is a pivotal stage in a pupil’s education, with teachers building a foundational knowledge enabling pupils to build a strong base towards GCSE and A Level success. The first years of a Senior School education are when pupils develop the skills and thinking outlooks that will serve them well further up the school. It is also in these years that young people begin to discover for themselves which subjects they love, encouraging them to develop a greater curiosity and authentic interest.
Most lessons are taught in mixed-ability groups, helping to create an inclusive and supportive learning environment. The only exception is Maths, where pupils are grouped according to ability to ensure they’re appropriately challenged and supported. Pupils receive a range of activities to help them explore career options and develop important employability skills. Careers education is delivered through PSHE lessons in Years 7.
