Accommodation costs at MacEwan are generally less than CAD 11,000 per year, with monthly cost of living estimates ranging from CAD 1,500 - CAD 2,000. The city is full of vibrant attractions and things to do, from live music to walks along the North Saskatchewan River Valley. Alberta itself is home to five UNESCO World Heritage Sites, including part of the Canadian Rocky Mountains which are a short drive from the university.
Faculty provide a quality learning experience at MacEwan University and strive to put students at the core of all they do. International applicants must meet both academic and English language proficiency requirements.
International students who don't quite meet the entry criteria can take a preparatory program. This helps them develop their English language skills and improve courses required for academic study. Programs include English as an Additional Language (EAL), Foundation Program International and University Preparation.

The Students' Association of MacEwan University (SAMU) is the student voice on campus. SAMU offers a range of services, student advocacy, health and dental plans, as well as a universal transit pass to help students commute around Edmonton with ease. They also organize many students' events and activities and provide support to students.
Those who need help with their academic skills can gain feedback on their writing. They can book appointments with a tutor and find many study resources online.

Scholarships and bursaries are offered to international students in both degree and diploma programs. Students are automatically considered for scholarships at the time of acceptance based on academic merit.
Students who meet the following criteria will automatically be considered for the scholarship:

The Bachelor of Public Safety and Justice offer specialized training in vocational areas such as policing, investigations, community justice, corrections, emergency communication and cybersecurity. Students can expand their perspectives by taking additional elective modules in a variety of disciplines.
MacEwan may be able to transfer the credits from previously held certificates or diplomas—whether earned here or elsewhere—to certain degrees in this department, helping students finish their program in less time.
The Bridge to Canadian Nursing program aims to increase the number of nurses in Alberta. It is designed for internationally educated nurses who want to practise in Canada.
Upon completion, students hold the entry-level competencies for registered nurses in Alberta.
The Early Learning and Child Care Diploma prepares students to become early childhood educators and care for children. Courses focus on child development, curriculum planning, positive child guidance, professional team communications, and working with families.
After the successful completion of the first two years, students obtain a Diploma in Early Learning and Child Care.
The Child and Youth Care diploma program provides the knowledge and skills to help individuals and families navigate traumatic challenges. Students learn to build relationships with individuals and families, helping them to gain new insights, access support, and learn coping strategies.
After the successful completion of the first two years, students are eligible for Child Development Supervisor Certification from Alberta Children's Services and can work in entry-level front-line positions.
Practicum courses provide direct practice experience and are accredited through the Child and Youth Care Educational Accreditation Board of Canada.
