Manchester Metropolitan University International College (the International College) provides pathway programmes for international students who want to study at Manchester Metropolitan University (Manchester Met), a leading, modern university with a history of education since 1824.
The International College was established through a partnership between Manchester Metropolitan University and Navitas. The College offers Foundation, International Year One and Pre-Master's programmes that blend academic knowledge and study skills. With more than 90 progression degrees to choose from, students can take their next step into fields such as art and design, business, finance, engineering, computing, and humanities and social sciences.
Small class sizes, supportive service and a vibrant campus setting ensure students gain the confidence, skills and independence needed to succeed. On completing their pathway, students are guaranteed a place on a degree at Manchester Met, making the transition to university smooth and assured.
Students also benefit from a single visa that covers both their pathway and their chosen degree, full access to university facilities, and the opportunity to immerse themselves in campus life from day one.
Teaching at the International College applies the student-centred approach that focuses on interaction, engagement and individual support. Small class sizes enable tutors to provide personal guidance and regular feedback, helping students build the confidence and skills needed to succeed in UK higher education.
Lecturers offer both subject expertise and a strong understanding of the challenges international students face. They use a mix of seminars, workshops, group projects and one-to-one tutorials, supported by dedicated English language teaching. This helps every student build their academic skills while adapting to university-level study. Regular coursework, oral presentations and collaborative tasks give students the chance to practise key academic skills and track their progress. This approach reflects the teaching style at Manchester Met and supports a smooth transition from pathway to degree study.
The International College is organised into academic departments that align with the University faculties where students will later continue their studies. Pathway programmes cover subject areas such as business and management, engineering and computing, art and design, and humanities and social sciences. This gives students subject-specific preparation that connects closely with their chosen progression degree. Depending on their qualifications, students can join at Foundation, International Year One or Pre-Master's level. Each programme's content develops both academic knowledge and transferable skills relevant to their degree.
This structure also encourages collaboration and integration with Manchester Met academics and students. Through joint events, specialist lectures and access to wider university initiatives, International College students begin to experience the academic culture of their chosen faculty from the very start of their studies.
The International College offers an alternative route to university study with a wide range of qualifications accepted. To join an undergraduate pathway such as the Foundation or International Year One, students typically need to have completed high school with satisfactory grades and demonstrate a minimum English level of IELTS 5.5 overall with no component below 5.5. Students can find the equivalent international grade requirements on a country-by-country list on the college website.
For postgraduate preparation via a Pre-Master's programme, applicants should hold a recognised undergraduate degree or equivalent and have an IELTS score of 6.0 overall, with no component below 5.5. Equivalent accepted language assessment systems are listed online. Admission documents typically include valid passport and academic transcripts, English proficiency results, and a statement of purpose or personal statement.
Entry requirements may vary slightly depending on the progression degree selected, so students are encouraged check the specific course listing or speak with an advisor before making their application.
At the International College, international students can access scholarships for both undergraduate and postgraduate studies, without the need for a separate application. These awards are exclusively for self-funded students and aim to support learners throughout both their pathway and main university courses.
Undergraduate students starting in September 2025 or January 2026 are eligible for a GBP 2,500 scholarship for each year of their pathway programme. Upon successful progression to a full-time undergraduate degree, students will continue to receive GBP 2,500 annually for the duration of their main course. This scholarship cannot be combined with other financial support from the college.
Postgraduate students joining a pathway programme in September 2025 or January 2026 can receive GBP 2,000 for their Pre-Master's course. Once they successfully progress to a full-time taught master's degree, they are eligible for a GBP 3,500 scholarship towards their postgraduate studies.
Scholarship values apply for the 2025/26 academic year and are reviewed annually. Eligibility is determined by the college, and scholarships do not require application.
The International College guarantees progression to degree-level study at Manchester Met for all students who successfully complete their pathway programmes.
A core strength of the university is its focus on preparing students for future careers. Over 80 percent of international undergraduate students have gone into graduate-level work or further study following their course at Manchester Met (Graduate Outcomes Survey, 2021/22).
International College students have full access to the university's award-winning career services. Support includes CV writing workshops, LinkedIn profile guidance, interview training, personal development planning, and academic advising. These resources help students build confidence and career readiness from day one.
Thanks to Manchester Met's strong industry links and central location, students can also take advantage of placement opportunities, career fairs, and professional networking events, even while completing their pathway course, enhancing their prospects for long-term success.
The International College is based in the heart of Manchester Met's campus, placing students within easy reach of libraries, accommodation, social spaces and the full range of university services. The International College itself is newly developed, featuring well-equipped classrooms, collaborative study areas and welcoming social spaces that encourage both academic success and a strong sense of community.
Students benefit from being in the centre of Manchester Met's campus. They can enjoy new developments such as the Dalton Building, which opened in November 2024. This is the new home for the Faculty of Science and Engineering. It offers advanced laboratories, research hubs and a 200-seat "super lab". Landscaped green spaces and social areas surround the building. These features create an environment that supports both study and collaboration. The investments show Manchester Met's commitment to giving students an inspiring and future-focused place to learn.
