Bachelor of Arts in Health and Society (Honours)

This degree program focuses on the significance of health and illness in cultural context.
The perspectives of the social sciences and humanities are brought to bear on exploring the diverse meanings and practices associated with health and health care. Attention is given to different theoretical approaches to understanding the health of individuals, groups and communities in contemporary and historical perspectives.

Graduates have been successful at finding careers in a range of health andor aging fields, such as: Health PolicySocial Policy Research, Project Coordinators, Care Coordinators, Volunteer Coordinators, Education Coordinators (i.e. Alzheimer’s Society), Marketing, Human Resource, Administration Education, RecreationActivation staff in Long-term care, Law, Public Health, Occupational Therapy, Physiotherapy, Medicine Chiropractic School and Social Work.

Entry requirements may vary from country to country. Students are required to complete Grade 12 high school diploma equivalent to Canadian qualification.

Selection is based on academic achievement but requires, as a minimum, completion of any Level 1 program with a Grade Point Average of at least 5.0 (C) a grade of at least 5.0 (C) in HLTH AGE 1AA3 (HLTHAGE 1BB3 must be completed by the end of Level II, however students are strongly encouraged to complete this requirement in Level I).

English Language Proficiency

IELTS - International English Language Testing System (Academic): 6.5 Overall with a minimum of 6.0 in each of the four components (Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening); results valid for 2 years

CAE - Cambridge English Advanced: 190 Overall with minimum score of 180 in each component; valid for 2 years

PTE - Pearson Test of English Academic: 60 Overall with minimum score of 60 in Writing and Speaking; valid for 2 years

CAEL - Canadian Academic English Language: 70 Overall with no component score below 60; valid for 2 years

MELAB - Michigan English Language Assessment Battery: 85 Overall valid for 2 years; Minimum 80 in each of the three required components; Minimum 3 in optional speaking component (Required).

TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language IBT: 86 Overall with a minimum score of 20 in each of the four components (Reading, Writing, Speaking, Listening); valid for 2 years
