Bachelor of Applied Science in Early Childhood Education

The Early Childhood Education Bachelor of Applied Science Degree (BAS) program prepares students for jobs as lead infant/preschool teachers and administrative/leadership positions at early learning programs and related nonprofits. Students will learn research-based teaching and coaching practices through coursework and an embedded practicum. Students complete 90 credits on average, this varies depending on previous college coursework.

The college is planning to launch the Academy for Rising Educators (ARE) BAS Cohort in partnership with Seattle Public Schools in Fall 2021. This cohort is a continuation of the ARE Pathway that begins at Seattle Central College.

A.A.S. and A.A.S.-T degrees in Early Childhood Education, Child and Family Studies, or related programs offer the best preparation for the ECE B.A.S. degree. However, any two- or four-year degree or equivalent credits will be considered. If you do not yet have a degree but have over 70 credits, please reach out to the Program Manager. Students who wish to complete the degree in two years must have at least 3 ECE prerequisites complete prior to starting the program in the fall. Students who wish to complete the degree in three years or who miss the fall deadline may complete prerequisites in a “pathway” year.

NSC does not require the TOEFL or IELTS test scores for admission. However, if you have any of the following with the minimum described below, you will be eligible to register in college-level courses. Test or course must have been completed within 2 years for placement.
