Doctor of Philosophy in Biosystems Engineering

The study of biosystems engineering merges engineering and agricultural science to improve quality of life while maintaining the environment and preserving natural resources. The focus of biosystems engineering is to enhance the production and profitability of agricultural and biological products. Biosystems engineers work at the interface of biology and technology to address problems and opportunities related to food, water, energy and the environment-all of which are critical to the future.

The Doctor of Philosophy degree in biosystems engineering requires a minimum of 90 credit hours beyond the bachelor's degree, or a minimum of 60 credit hours beyond the master's degree in related discipline.



A minimum of 60 credit hours (beyond MS degree)
A minimum of 30 coursework credit hours comprised of:
28 in-residence graduate credit hours (maximum of 9 transfer hours with "B" or better)
At least 9 credit hours of BAE graduate courses in the required course work credit hours.
One credit hour of Teaching Practicum
One credit hour of BAE Graduate Seminar
30 research credit hours
