Graduate Diploma in Primary Healthcare Nurse Practitioner

The PHCNP Diploma program is a one-year, full-time or two-year, part-time course of study for nurses who already have a master’s degree and wish to prepare for advanced practice in primary health care nursing. The program consists of courses provided through the Ontario Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner program. This provides opportunities for students to develop advanced skills and knowledge in health assessment for clinical nursing roles in primary health care settings.

The graduate nursing programs at Queen’s University are designed for students interested in nursing research and advanced practice. Our Ph.D. program is geared toward preparing you for a career as a nurse scientist by immersing you in independent research into the nature, effect, outcome and management of a range of health and illness-related transitions. Our MNSc thesis-based program gives you the opportunity to choose among two fields of study: Chronic Health Conditions and Transitions in Health and Illness. Our MN(PHCNP) (Primary Health Care Nurse Practitioner program) gives you the opportunity to prepare for advanced practice in primary health care nursing. Our PHCNP Diploma is for nurses who already have a master’s degree and wish to prepare for advanced practice in primary health care nursing.

Undergraduate university degree in nursing with a minimum overall average equivalent to a B; two academic letters of reference; undergraduate courses in research methodology and statistics; active registration as RN with College of Nurses of Ontario;

English language requirements

TOEFL - Test of English as a Foreign Language

Computer-Based Test: A minimum score of 250 and a minimum Essay Rating score of 5.0

Paper-Based Test: A minimum score of 600 and a Test of Written English (TWE) with a minimum score of 5.0
Internet-based test: A minimum score of 100 and a minimum score of 4 for writing

IELTS - English for International Opportunity - A minimum score of 7

MELAB - Michigan English Language Assessment Battery - A minimum score of 90

PTE - Pearson Test of English Academic - A minimum score of 70
