Rutgers is one of the oldest, most respected institutions of higher learning in the country; Camden is a city known for its determination and resilience. Founded in the 1920s, Rutgers University–Camden began as the South Jersey Law School and the College of South Jersey. In 1950, the two schools became the Camden campus when it merged with Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey. Together it has created a research university that’s driving innovation across the region while providing incredible opportunities for students to learn by engaging in the world around them.
Undergraduates can explore nearly 40 majors and 50 minors. Beside this, students can earn master’s, doctoral, or professional degrees in dozens of programs. The university’s faculty are as driven and resourceful as its students, and together they’ll make sure students take advantage of everything Rutgers–Camden has to offer. Students will connect and collaborate across disciplines to spark inspiration, all in small classes built around an experiential approach to learning that will give them a head start in a rewarding career or pursuing a graduate degree.
Rutgers University-Camden has so much to offer outside the classroom. The Office of Student Involvement provides many opportunities and experiences that undergraduate and graduate students can participate in. It also provides support, advising, and guidance to organizations and individuals, who are looking to create their own student life experience.
Student Organizations are a means by which students can affect change in both their local University experience and the world beyond. They can also serve as places where a student can establish valuable connections or where people of common interests can get together. From social to academic, there is something for everyone.
The Rutgers–Camden Center for the Arts provides performances, exhibitions, education programs, and community projects that inspire a full appreciation and enjoyment of the arts, create meaningful opportunities to participate in the arts, advance the central role of the arts in pre K-12 education, and increase awareness of the arts as essential to cultural, economic, and community vitality. RCCA, as part of Rutgers, The State University of New Jersey, is committed to making diversity a way of University life, where all members of the University community feel welcome, valued and respected.
Rutgers–Camden boasts the best of two vibrant cities: Camden and Philadelphia. The beautiful campus is located in the heart of one of the most exciting metropolitan areas of the country and it’s all right here: the arts, history, sports, and culture. The Camden Waterfront, a short walk from campus, attracts three million visitors a year for entertainment. A quick train ride takes you into Philadelphia within minutes for restaurants, museums, historical sites, music and theater performances, and professional sports.
