Established in Sydney in 1976 originally as the world’s first dedicated school of audio engineering (SAE)—the organisation experienced rapid early success. The strong demand for its high-tech, creative, and industry-relevant training quickly led to the establishment of campuses nationwide. Its presence in New Zealand began in 1989 with the opening of SAE Auckland in Parnell. Officially accredited by the Ministry of Education, its first classes commenced in 1990, followed shortly by the introduction of a Multimedia Producer Programme. Today, SAE Auckland spans three buildings in Parnell Village, offering Diploma and Bachelor’s degree-level study across Music, Audio, and Film. At the same time, SAE has expanded significantly on a global scale, establishing itself as a leading digital media educator. Contemporary and inspiring, SAE courses are distinctly high-tech and closely aligned with the evolving creative industries worldwide. The organisation offers courses in more than 20 countries across approximately 50 campuses, enabling a collaborative global perspective. With a strong practical focus, its courses are continually updated to meet both student needs and industry demands. They are delivered on-campus and online using cutting-edge technology, providing a highly personalised, interactive, and collaborative learning environment.
