The BA Digital Media, Culture and Creative Arts combined degree at SOAS University of London provides an innovative, interdisciplinary education that explores the intersections between digital media and the creative arts across Asia, the Middle East, and Africa. This programme enables students to engage critically with digital culture and creative expression, developing practical and analytical skills essential for the global digital and cultural sectors. In the Digital Media component, students investigate the role of technology in shaping communication, culture, and creativity. The curriculum covers key topics such as digital storytelling, social media, content creation, and the impact of digital platforms on identity and cultural representation. Practical modules in media production and digital design equip students with essential skills for creating engaging digital content, fostering a critical understanding of how digital media shapes cultural experiences worldwide. The Creative Arts component introduces students to the visual, performing, and musical arts, as well as the wider cultural industries across Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. Students explore topics such as arts management, cultural diplomacy, heritage preservation, and creative entrepreneurship, gaining a global perspective on the cultural sector. With practical training in curation, project management, and consultancy, this component provides students with hands-on experience relevant to careers in the arts and cultural industries. By combining these two disciplines, the BA Digital Media, Culture and Creative Arts programme offers graduates a distinctive blend of digital, creative, and analytical skills. This interdisciplinary approach prepares students for careers in digital media production, arts management, cultural consultancy, and media, equipping them to contribute meaningfully to the rapidly evolving digital and creative landscapes. Professional placements A professional placement is a great first step to getting necessary work experience and securing the career you want. During your third year, you will work with a business or organisation and apply the knowledge you've learnt on your course in the workplace. You’ll develop skills like planning, problem-solving, decision making and project management, while getting first-hand experience on how a professional organisation works. Placement opportunities are organised by the applicant. If a placement is not found, applicants will be transferred onto the standard programme of study.
