Ideal for those pursuing careers in media, cultural industries, or international relations, this programme offers a global perspective with practical, career-ready skills. In the BA Film Studies component, students delve into the histories, theories, and practices of global cinema, with a special emphasis on the film cultures of Asia, Africa, and the Middle East. SOAS’s renowned research initiatives, such as the Screen Worlds: Decolonising Film and Screen Studies project, and faculty connections to the film industry provide a robust academic foundation. Practical training in film curation, editing, and programming, along with volunteer opportunities at partner film festivals, help students build valuable industry experience. Situated in Bloomsbury near key film institutions like the British Film Institute, students enjoy a vibrant cinema environment with frequent screenings, director Q&As, and industry discussions. The BA Arabic component offers advanced language training in both modern and classical Arabic and a rich understanding of the cultural, literary, and historical contexts of the Arabic-speaking world. Emphasising proficiency in all language skills, the programme includes a Year Abroad, allowing students to immerse themselves in the language and culture.
