St. George's University (SGU) aims to bring together top talent and practices from all over the globe and has become a center for academic excellence. SGU, Grenada is located on the Caribbean island of Grenada and has over 25,000 School of Medicine graduates in the US and around the world.¹

Established in 1976, the university offers superb modern facilities, equipment, and learning technologies, alongside a multicultural campus experience. Grenada has a rich blend of African, English, and French influences, and a lively atmosphere with diverse food, music, language, and entertainment options. The official language of Grenada is English.

Study options include:

• Four-year Doctor of Medicine (MD) degree for university graduates
• Five, six, and seven-year MD tracks for high school graduates
• Classes start in August, January, and April

Upon completing Basic Sciences, students will progress to two years of clinical rotations, which take place in over 75 affiliated hospitals in the US and UK. These trusted connections allow students to gain a breadth of knowledge with different specialties across multiple environments and gain valuable international experience.

SGU's School of Medicine has received accreditation for decades, and as a result, the university's medical graduates have continuously been eligible to practice in the US. The Grenada Medical and Dental Council (GMDC), SGU School of Medicine's accreditor, is recognized by the World Federation of Medical Education (WFME) and the US National Committee on Foreign Medical Education and Accreditation (NCFMEA).

The WFME's recognition of GMDC ensures that SGU School of Medicine students have access to USMLE Step exams, US clinical rotations, eligibility for US residency placement, and the physician licensing process in the US and many other countries worldwide.

Students holding a bachelor's degree can follow the traditional four-year MD program. There are also three preclinical tracks leading to the MD program. The preclinical phase includes the study of preclinical sciences, humanities, and social sciences, as well as coursework that prepares students for medical school.

Basic Sciences are the first two years of the four-year MD program. Students can complete the entire two years in Grenada, or partly in the UK at Northumbria University. Teaching is through traditional lectures, laboratory sessions, small-group sessions, and case-based learning exercises. Faculties include:

Clinical faculty

The final two years are spent at hospitals and clinics across the US and UK. This is alongside learning through lectures, small group sessions, and directed study. Faculties include:

• Emergency medicine
• Family medicine and general practice
• Obstetrics/gynecology
• Psychiatry
• Surgery

There is a range of entry options for students from all academic backgrounds.

University graduates

• Four-year MD program: Bachelor's degree in the requisite sciences.

High school graduates

Five-year MD track:

• Advanced Levels with at least As and Bs in biology, chemistry, and either physics or math.
• Full IB diploma with at least 32 points, three science subjects recommended.
• India 10+2 or CBSE with at least an average of 80 percent, and at least 80 percent in biology, chemistry, physics, math, and English.

Six-year MD track:

• Secondary school diploma with a strong performance in science.
• Further education such as AS Levels, Baccalaureate, South Africa Matric, or Higher School Exam.

Seven-year MD track:

• IGCSE with at least a B in six subjects, including biology, chemistry, physics, math and English.

International students are exempt from the Medical College Admission Test (MCAT) and the University Clinical Aptitude Test (UCAT). Students are not required to apply through UCAS or take the National Eligibility-cum-Entrance Test (NEET). English language requirements

Any student who isn't a native English speaker will either need an undergraduate degree from a native English-speaking country, or one of the following tests and scores:

• IELTS: 7.0 overall and 7.0 on each band for direct entry
• TOEFL: 94-101 overall for direct entry (24-26 reading / 24-26 listening / 23 speaking / 27-28 writing)
• Password Skills: Scoring is the same as IELTS scoring for direct entry
• C1 Advanced (CAE): 185 overall and 185 in each band for direct entry
• PTE Academic: 66.3 overall for direct entry (67.6 reading / 66.2 listening / 65.3 speaking / 82.3 writing)
• Duolingo English Test: 130 overall and 130 on each band for direct entry
• Kaplan Test of English: 510 overall and 510 on each band for direct entry

SGU Campus, Grenada, West Indies

The Grenada campus is situated on a southwestern peninsula of the Caribbean island. There are 65 buildings across the seaside location, which combine Georgian architecture and vibrant Caribbean colors. The campus features the latest facilities, such as:

Those who begin their medical education in the UK will study at Northumbria University's City Campus, owing to SGU's partnership. Located in Newcastle Upon Tyne, the university is home to many technical facilities that enhance the student experience, including:

2025-2026 tuition and administrative fees* for the MD program and tracks at SGU are as follows:

• Four-year MD program: USD 374,986 (four years in total)
• Five-year MD track: USD 418,370 (five years in total)
• Six-year MD track: USD 461,754 (six years in total)
• Seven-year MD track: USD 505,138 (seven years in total)

All students are eligible to be reviewed for scholarships and need-based bursaries. Students may be eligible for multiple awards, depending on their circumstances. These include the Global Scholars Bursary and the International Peace Bursary, both of which are grants-in-aid that do not need to be repaid.

Global Scholars Bursary

Students may receive partial-tuition awards when joining the four-year MD program with SGU and Northumbria University. To be eligible, students must demonstrate academic excellence and financial need.

International Peace Bursary

Students may receive partial-tuition awards to support their work towards enhancing medical care systems. To be eligible, students must demonstrate financial need and the ability to fund the rest of the tuition fees.
