Sixth Form (16 plus)

Every year we take approximately sixty new pupils into the Sixth Form. It is an exciting time to be joining Stowe in the Sixth Form. These years are potentially the most rewarding of your school career, and we want all our Sixth Form pupils to make the most of the opportunities available at Stowe and to enjoy the education and environment that we offer here. In these two years you will make decisions about Higher Education and your career and you will be offered all kinds of challenges and opportunities. In the classroom, we ask that our pupils take a positive approach to learning from the outset, with an understanding that talent in any field is something that is grown through practice. Academic study is, of course, the main reason why you will be at Stowe and our focus is on delivering the best teaching and learning environment through a support system that has been developed to help you achieve the best results you can. In addition to the A Level programme, we offer an Electives Programme including an Extended Project Qualification which provides the perfect opportunity for you to identify and explore a topic of your choice. There is also a selection of standard AS courses and BTECs which will enable you to demonstrate your ability to work independently and stand you in good stead for university. The Sixth Form at Stowe requires a maturity and an ability to organise yourself in a way that develops this independent study. You will experience the pleasure of discovery and exploration, of forging ideas and increasing awareness and of deepening your understanding of the world around you, learning personal responsibility and self-motivation as you progress. We will help prepare you for a world that is changing rapidly and we will equip you with the skills you will need to go out into this world and be ready to make positive change.

Candidates studying GCSE or iGCSE are required to achieve a minimum of Grade 6 in six subjects. If intending to study A Level Sciences or Languages, a minimum of Grade 7 is required with Grade 8 required for those choosing to study Maths.

Candidates who are not following the GCSE or iGCSE syllabus are required to meet the equivalent standard in their end-of-year examinations.

Stage 1: Register online through the 16+ Admissions section of our website • Stage 2: Complete the Enrolment Form using the link on the 16+ Admissions section of our website and return it by email with a copy of the most recent school report and any other relevant documents. Ensure no more than two Scholarship applications are submitted and the Scholarship criteria are met. • Stage 3: Complete online CAT4 tests by the specified deadline (or submit UKiset for those applicants mentioned above).
