Master of Social Work (Qualifying) (MSQ(Q))

The Master of Social Work (Qualifying), in short, MSW(Q) at Sydney Met is an AQF Level 9 program accredited by TEQSA. This is an AASW-accredited qualification. It is an entry qualification into the social work profession and has been determined to meet the Australian Social Work Education and Accreditation Standards.Developed in consultation with industry experts, the course emphasises a career-focused approach, preparing students for competency in social work through rigorous academic and practical training. The program spans two years of full-time study, though students have the option to accelerate completion through Sydney Met's trimester system. A crucial component of the MSW (Q) is the 1,000 hours of integrated field education, which provides hands-on experience in real-world social work settings. This combination of theoretical learning and practical application ensures that graduates are equipped to contribute meaningfully to the social work sector, addressing diverse community needs and promoting social justice.

To satisfy the academic requirements for admission to the Master of Social Work (MSW) (Q), applicants must meet the following minimum entry requirements aligned to the required standards of the Australian Association of Social Workers (AASW) as follows:

• a Bachelor's degree (AQF level 7) or overseas equivalent qualification with at least eight social and behavioural sciences units. Units from the following broad fields may be considered: sociology, psychology, community and welfare studies, history, media and communication, arts and humanities, law, geography, economics, policy and governance, education, anthropology, political science, ethnic and gender studies, development studies, counselling, philosophy, nursing and allied health sciences, public health, business, information science, management, leadership, or, similar; or

• a Graduate Certificate in Human and Community Services (AQF 8) from Sydney Met, or equivalent from an accredited Australian Higher Education Provider.
