TasTAFE is Tasmania's largest public vocational education and training provider. It offers over 200 nationally accredited qualifications across 30 industry areas. Courses range from Certificate I to Advanced Diploma level, with relevant prior learning and skills recognised.

Students come from a range of backgrounds, and are all at different stages in their career. International students at TasTAFE receive bespoke support from dedicated international student advisors to help them settle into their new home and make the most of their study experience.
TasTAFE has seven main campuses located throughout Tasmania, as well as seven specialist training facilities and two centres of excellence. Students also have the option to study some courses online. All courses are taught by experienced professionals who bring their own industry insights to their teaching.

Flexible delivery – As well as on-campus training across Tasmania, TasTAFE offers online and hybrid courses, workplace and apprenticeship training and evening classes.
Real-life learning – Students receive hands-on, practical training to gain the skills and knowledge to be job-ready in their chosen industry. They can gain real-life experience in simulated work environments, work placements and community projects.

Recognition for prior learning and skills – Students may be able to fast track their studies by having previous skills and knowledge recognised, or be awarded credit transfer for higher vocational qualifications at a higher level or at university.

TasTAFE's courses are designed to provide students with hands-on, practical learning to help them gain the skills and experience they need for their future career. Some qualifications allow students the opportunity to work with individual clients or the community and provide industry experience valued by prospective employers.
Students can put their learning into practice by delivering services to the public in professional settings, such as Drysdale restaurants and workshops. There is also the chance to work in trades workshops or get involved in planning a community events in one of TasTAFE's community services qualifications.
At TasTAFE, teachers are industry professionals and are committed to sharing their experience and skills with the next generation of upcoming professionals. Many TasTAFE teachers come direct from industry, bringing plenty of up-to-date knowledge and practical tricks of the trade to share with students.
TasTAFE provides a range of training programs, which have varying entry requirements that students need to fulfil. These include the minimum qualification, knowledge, skills, any relevant experience or personal attributes required to successfully complete the course.
Some courses do not carry any particular entry criteria, but others have certain essential criteria to be met. These are listed in the course information on the TasTAFE website. The requirements include skills in areas like reading, writing, IT and mathematics. In some cases, TasTAFE may also take into account any previous qualifications and prior learning. Certain courses also require students to hold a specific licence or satisfy a police check, while others could relate to student's' ability to work long hours while being on their feet or to endure extended periods of manual handling.
There is also a certain level of proficiency expected in the English language, to be demonstrated by approved English tests that are accepted around the world. This includes the IELTS, where students need to have scored an overall score of 6.0, with no band less than 5.0, or an IELTS Academic, in which students need to have an overall score of 7.0 with no band less than 7.0. Results obtained in the Pearson test of English (PTE) and TOEFL are also accepted.
The English entry requirements are reviewed annually to ensure that they match industry standards.

TasTAFE has a support team to guide students and help them decide on navigating course options and career pathways.
TasTAFE has two student residences, located at the Clarence Campus in Hobart and the Alanvale Campus in Launceston. Both offer clean, affordable and comfortable onsite accommodation options.
They provide four-share accommodation comprising self-contained, motel style units, suitable for short- and long-term stays. Separate accommodation is available for adults and those under 18.
Each residence building is fully furnished, containing a lounge or dining area with a TV, bathroom with shower and separate toilet, fully equipped kitchenette and laundry, access to vending machines and table sports including table tennis and pool tables. Single bedroom units contain a bed and bedding, desk, chair, desk lamp, heater, built-in wardrobe and shelving.

The Diploma of Nursing is one of TasTAFE's most in-demand courses, with over 300 students enrolled at campuses in Alanvale (Launceston), Clarence (Hobart) and Devonport. To offer this course TasTAFE maintains its accreditation status awarded by the Australian Nursing and Midwifery Accreditation Council (ANMAC). This was recently renewed.
This allows TasTAFE to provide nursing education that equips students with the skills they require for jobs, now and in the future.
