Secondary Senior Junior Years 8-10 Junior Secondary Studies

The transition from Middle to Senior Secondary education is an important time in a young person's life. At The Friends’ School, we aim to develop capable learners and confident young adults who are able to think critically, make decisions for themselves and act with integrity. Students have access to a varied curriculum and as they progress through their years of secondary education, they are able to tailor their studies to suit their individual interests and passions. Students are able to participate in a wide range of co-curricular activities including a variety of sports (including rowing, sailing, equestrian, soccer, hockey and basketball), music and dramatic arts (including dance, musicals and individual and group musical tuition), service-related endeavours (button selling, Amnesty letter writing, working with the Southern Support School) and academic pursuits including the Da Vinci Decathlon, Mathematics Challenge and debating. In these vital years, students are encouraged to take advantage of the many opportunities they have available to them and to create a balanced and rich schooling life. Students in Years 9 and 10 study a combination of compulsory and elective subjects. English, Mathematics, Science, Health and Physical Education are compulsory in Years 9 and 10, whilst Humanities is compulsory in Year 9. History is compulsory in Year 10. All other subjects are optional and students can select from a range of subjects to build courses that suit individual capabilities and interests. Although a student may decide to specialise in The Arts, Languages, Humanities or Technology, we normally advise students to choose a balanced program covering a range of learning areas.

All applications need to be completed fully and signed by both parents. The application fee will be applied at the time of an offer being made and included in the non-tuition costs. Each application is reviewed individually and independently by the Enrolments Manager.

• Previous 2 years of academic transcripts – (certified and translated into English if necessary)
• A one-page letter/essay by the student-written in his or her own Handwriting.
• Certified copies of certificates, awards demonstrating the applicant’s extra-curricular activities and service.
• A written reference from the student’s principal or class teacher at the time of application. (Certified and translated into English if necessary)
• Copies of any certificates of public examinations (where applicable).
• Results of your Australian Education Services Assessment (AEAS) or other internationally recognised tests.
